Inside Boston Underground Poker Part 5: Bubbles Goes Busto

Previous Post: https://www.reddit.com/pokecomments/bg7xox/inside_boston_underground_poker_part_4_bubbles_in/
So there I was, walking to the Wynn craps table with about $38k in cash in my pocket. I was up $30k for the day in poker, but as always, I had to push my luck.
There's a table off to the side with only one player at it, while the rest of the tables are pretty packed. I prefer a relatively empty table, so I head over there. The guy at the table has weirdly colored chips in front of him, and I realize he's some mega-whale with over a million in chips in his rail. I walk up to the table and he stays sitting, staring into his rail of chips. The table is $100 minimum which is why no one else was there, and I buy in for $10k.
The guy is just starting a new roll, so I put $600 each 6 and 8 and $250 on the 5 and 9, and he instantly 7s out. I'm down $1700 already in about 3 minutes, shit.
I throw $100 on the line, throw a 6 on the come out and put $600 on the 8, $250 each 5 and 9 again. The other guy started the roll with $12k each 6 and 8, $10k each 5 and 9 and $5k each 4 and 10, plus $1000 each on the hardways. I end up going on an insane roll. I'm throwing hard 6s and 8s like crazy, the guy has pressed up to $5k each on the hard ways and $30k each 6 and 8, and I just keep rolling them. I'm pressing my bets as well, and I'm up like $20k plus I have my bets up to $1000 each 5 and 9 and $3000 each 6 and 8, and I'm still going. At one point I bounce one of the dice off the table, and the other guy turns his bets off, and I roll back to back hard 6s, so he missed out on $160,000 from those rolls, it was pretty sick.
I think in total I made something like $35k off of my roll, and the other guy made over a million. The sickest part was that he barely even looked up from his chips, and he never said a word to me or tipped the dealers at all. He went to the bathroom at one point and I made a comment to the dealers, and they said he was still down overall on the day... What a sicko.
I played for a bit longer and ended up with $90k in my pocket, a profit of over $52k in a couple of hours of craps. I went into the Wynn with $8k in the morning and was leaving with $90k about 12 hours later. It was absolutely insane. I walked outside to wait for my car at the valet, and I had stuffed all 9 of the $10k "straps" into the pockets of my jeans. My jeans were busting with all of the cash, and these old people who were waiting at the valet noticed it and were staring so hard, it was hilarious.
Between my cash, bank accounts and investments, I had about $350k to my name at that moment, less than 3 years after moving to Boston with a roll of around $1500. As you can imagine, I felt absolutely on top of the world. All kinds of thoughts ran through my head. Should I go buy a Porsche in cash? Should I listen to my mom and go to school in Santa Barbara, and use my money on a down payment on a house there?
What was certain was the first thing I should have done was taken a bunch of that cash to the bank and gotten it out of my degenerate hands. Instead I drove to the Bellagio, got a room, got some room service, and went to bed. I woke up in the morning and had lost the $90k at the craps table before lunch.
Now you might be thinking that this was the start of my spiral down, that I went and cashed out my investments, got it all in cash, and blew it all at the Bellagio craps tables, but that would have been too simple. Instead I went back to grinding $10/20nl like nothing had happened. I had lost 2 buyins, oh well.
I took a few more shots at juicy $25/50nl games that summer, and like the lucky asshole I was, I never had a losing session in the 5 I played of that game. The other 4 were all at Bellagio, and usually only ran because a couple of specific businessmen wanted to play. They were bad, the games were great, I was still on top of the world in terms of poker.
One session in particular stood out. I sat down with $10k and was on a roll again, running it up to over $20k within a couple of hours. I had maybe $24k in front of me and was the big stack at the table, it was early and there hadn't been too many rebuys yet, and in walks Viffer (David Peat). Viffer was apparently down a few buyins in Bobby's Room and only had enough for our game, so he sat in with $50k. Being the biggest stack at the table besides him, as well as a 21 year old dressed like a complete douche, Viffer instantly focused on me. He was sitting all the way across the table from me (I was in seat 3, he was in seat 8), but as he sat down he called across the table to me, "hey kid, ever lost a $50,000 pot before?". "Not yet, but I look forward to it!", I retorted. Not my greatest comeback ever, but oh well.
I continue working up a stack without playing any big pots with him, and I'm at close to $30k and Viffer is still around $50k when a big pot happens. Since it was a $25/50nl game with $100 dead on the button, a typical raise was $300-350. In this hand, UTG raised to $350, Viffer called from the CO or HJ, the button called, the SB called, and I woke up with KK in the BB. There's over $1500 in the pot already, so I make it $1500 total and everyone calls. There's over $7500 in the pot preflop. The flop comes KTx rainbow, and I'm trying to figure out how long I should wait before checking, and if I should ham it up, when instead the SB open jams for around $8000. I have nearly $20k behind, and I wasn't sure what to do. UTG had about $12k, Viffer had me covered, and the button had under $10k, so raising vs flatting only really mattered significantly vs Viffer. I decided he didn't have much that could have hit this flop strongly, I wasn't getting paid unless he had KT or obviously TT or bottom set, and I didn't want to let him have pot odds with QJ, so I just jammed. UTG snap folded and Viffer stared me down for a minute before folding, and the button folded as well. We didn't flip our cards up, and the turn came an A and Viffer cursed to himself. He admitted later to having AT. River came a blank and the SB flipped up QJo to ship the pot with his straight. Bye bye $24k pot.
I shake it off, I still have around $20k in front of me, and I run it up a bit once again, sitting with around $25k when I get into a big pot once again. This time I raise to $300 with J9s from the CO and one of the donkey businessmen that the games run because of reraised from the blinds up to $900. I called the $600 more, he had around $13k in his stack to start. The flop comes QJ9 and I'm loving life again. He could have QQ, but JJ is unlikely since I have one, and I had only seen him 3 bet once in around 4 hours. Great chance he had an overpair. He instantly bet out $1500 into the $2000 or so pot, and I reraised to $4000, he went all in pretty quickly, and after a little bit of thought I made the call and he proudly flipped up KK. He had a decent number of outs with his gutshot, another K or a Q giving him the pot, but instead the board ran out 5, 5 to give him higher 2 pair in a different way. Bye bye $26k pot.
Those were 2 of the biggest pots I had ever played where it actually went to showdown and I hadn't gone all in with 100% to win. I had around 62% equity with the J9 and 74% with the KK, so it was a less than 10% chance for me to lose both. I ended up leaving the table up $7k, which was awesome after having lost my only 2 all ins for the night, but I was feeling negative, and of course went to the craps table. I lost my $7k profit and went home even for the day.
Another of the biggest pots I ever played was actually at $10/20nl at the Wynn vs another pro who liked to try to make huge bluffs sometimes and had a habit of overthinking stuff in my opinion. I was sitting with over $15k from $8k in buyins, and was having a pretty great session overall, and the other pro had around $10k. I don't remember the action nearly as well in this hand as the others, but I had KTss in a 3bet multiway pot to the flop, and it came KT7 with 2 hearts. Someone bet, the other pro raised, I 3bet, the original better flatted, the other pro 4bet for like 40% of his stack, I shoved, the original raiser folded after tanking, and the pro went into the tank hard. Now this was a guy whose game I respected. He was facing a bet of another $5500 to win a pot of about $23000. When he went into the tank, I figured he had a non-nut flush draw and was trying to figure out if I had some pair and higher flush draw combos or nut flush draws in my range where he'd be way behind. He tanked for nearly 5 minutes and eventually called, the board ran out A, 5 and he said "you've probably got me". I turned over my KT and he goes "oh holy shit I figured you had a set!" and turn over A5hh. I'm not sure why he tanked so long getting over 3:1 with a nut flush draw, even if he put me on only sets, he still had the odds to call, and I'm playing QJhh and 98hh the same way, hands he is ahead of. I didn't mind losing 2 pair vs flush draw as much as I minded that he had me convinced I was good with his tank, and then even more when he said "you've probably got me". I had to leave the game because I was close to tilt after that one.
The WSOP ended and the games dried up a bit. There were still $10/20nl games going at Bellagio usually, but with more grinders and fewer donks per table. Throughout the post- WSOP summer, many of my friends came out to party, and I spent a lot of time with Ashley, growing closer with her. At the end of the summer I decided not to stay in Vegas full time, moving to Berkeley, California, near my hometown and where several of my friends went to university. I played some of the juicy $5/10nl and $10/20nl games in the Bay Area with a medium amount of success, and partied a bunch with friends in frats at Cal. I made lots of trips out to Vegas, usually just for degenerate gambling and not a ton of poker. I had taken some losses in the market, but was still sitting with around $300k between cash, accounts and investments. When Bank of America dipped in November, I bought some for under $12. I still had Jetblue stock which wasn't doing great, and a handful of other stocks which were all struggling in the bear market, but I was convinced it would turn around.
My host at the Bellagio was always inviting me to special events, and 2 stood out. A $1 million freeroll heads up blackjack tournament was the first. It was 128 players, so nearly $10k in value. If you won your first 3 rounds, you were in the money and guaranteed $50k. After dominating my first 2 opponents who knew very little about blackjack tournament strategy, I was feeling confident. Blackjack tournament strategy is very different than normal blackjack strategy since your objective is to beat your opponent, not the dealer, and there are weird rules like blackjack paying 2 to 1. There are a set number of hands you play, and whomever has the most money after those hands wins. My first opponent went broke, so I automatically won that. My 2nd opponent just bet small every time, and didn't compensate when I took a lead, so on the final hand he didn't even give himself a chance to win with his bet.
My third opponent was semi competent, he at least knew basic blackjack strategy, but his betting was wrong and he still played as if he was trying to win chips from the dealer, not merely outplay me. I managed to make it so that on the 25th and final hand of our game, if both me and my opponent won the hand, I won, if both me and my opponent lost the hand, I won. Outside of making it impossible for them to win at all, which is very hard with correct strategy, this is about all you can ask of in a blackjack tournament. Me and my opponent both received face cards first, a great sign for me. For my 2nd card I received another face card, great news, until my opponent was dealt an A and got paid 2 to 1. My only chance was to split my face cards and try my luck to still end up on top, but it didn't work out and my opponent was the winner.
A few months later I was invited to a free $1 million poker tournament. This was it, my ultimate chance. It was 100 invited players only and based on pit and slot play, not anything to do with poker. It was going to be me vs a bunch of degens without any poker skill! The time for the big tournament came, and there was a twist. There were actually 110 players, 10 of whom were MGM executives and had cash bounties on their heads between $1000-$10k depending on their level at the company. They couldn't cash the tournament, they were just there to have fun and add a wrinkle to the game.
I easily navigated the field to start, although someone else at my table got the $2k bounty for knocking out our MGM employee. As the tournament progressed, it became clear the structure wasn't great, especially with so many inexperienced players taking a long time to make decisions. We were down to about 14 players including 2 executives left. Once only 10 real players were left, all of the executives remaining would be removed and their bounties would be put into the regular prize pool. Top 10 got paid, so there were essentially 12 left plus 2 fake players. I don't remember the action too well for this hand either, but I believe I was about 30 bbs deep to start the hand and raised with AJ from the button and got called by both blinds. The big blind was a $5000 bounty and she only had about 5bbs left after the call. The flop came KJ4 and they both checked, and I bet the 5bbs that the bounty had left. They both called. Turn came a T and after the other guy checked, and I thought I had him beat, so I went all in for the remaining 20 or so bbs. The SB tanked and was talking about how he really wanted the bounty. He ended up calling, he had about 1bb behind, and we all showed our hands. The SB had T9 with no flush draw, and the bounty had QJ, so I was 81% to scoop the hand, and only 11% to bust. River T and I'm done. The worst part was that the guy who stacked me with T9, having called with just a gutshot on the flop, managed to lose all of his chips on the bubble and go out in 11th place. He got his $5k cash bounty though...
The stock market continued to crash, and I went harder and harder in on the stocks I thought would bounce back, still investing on margin. Eventually I lost it all in February/March of 2009 when Bank of America stock dropped to $3. I had bought in more at $7, then even more at $5, and when the margin call came in I lost nearly $200k just on that one stock. My average buy price was a mere $6 since I had bought in huge at $5. If I had been able to pay the margin call and hang on, by August of 2009 my 50k+ shares would have netted me a profit of over half a million dollars. Instead I was completely broke. My losses in the market for 2008 and 2009 were nearly $400,000, and I later found out my casino pit game losses were nearly $200,000. If I had been patient, diversified, not on margin, and kept out of the pit, I would have been a 22 year old millionaire. Instead I was busto.
I continued on in poker for several years after that, but unfortunately my persona of trying to seem like a rich kid wasting daddy's money had left me without many poker friends, and without many people who respected my game enough to stake me. I ended up turning to online SNGs and being moderate successful, but still lazy and not putting in the hours I should have. Ashley and I tried to make it work, but she wanted me to move out to Vegas for good, and I was afraid being in Vegas would end in disaster for me as I'd continue to waste a huge amount of money on gambling, money I no longer had. My high school sweetheart came back into my life at that point as well, and I pushed Ashley aside for nostalgia, ignoring the reasons the high school gf and I had broken up several times in the past. In the end, I wanted to be more serious than she did, and I haven't spoken to the high school ex in 10 years. Ashley moved on quickly as she always did, and already had a serious boyfriend by the time I came around and realized I wanted to be with her. She ended up becoming a stripper in Vegas, and the last time I saw her she was a bit of a mess. She moved out of Las Vegas these days and I think she's doing better, but we don't keep in close touch.
By Black Friday I had joined a good staking group and was successful at online SNGs, making a nice hourly, coaching other players, and generally doing well at poker, although in my personal life I was a mess after losing both girls I loved in close succession. After Black Friday I made several stupid mistakes, alienating my backers and many in the poker community. I paid everyone back in the end, but I knew I needed to get out of poker. I went back to college, met my wife and we've been together for nearly 7 years now. I now work as a financial adviser.
Thanks for reading, I hope you enjoyed my crazy life journey! Some other crazy stuff happened along the way that I might throw together at some point, but those are more Vegas party stories than much to do with poker.

My N-Parent Story

I was adopted at age 3.5 along with my brother. My adoptive parents had adopted two older girls before us, and they became our sisters and new family.
All four of us adopted children had behavior problems growing up and in school. We all struggled with bonding issues as well.
Our adoptive mother and father are covert narcissists. My mother was the worst though.
Every conversation she had with someone was about how hard she had it and was a backhanded way of saying what a good job she was doing with handling all of our issues. Also she seemed to launder her intentions in morality and religion. If I made a mistake, I was told I wasn't close to God enough and was a hypocrite. She wanted everyone to know what a big sacrifice she made adopting 4 children the foster care system rejected.
The biggest issue I had was understanding social expectations in the home growing up. Any time I told my mother I loved her, she would respond with something like: "oh you love me? well if you loved me you would do X,Y,Z without me asking. You would remember my birthday. You would do your chores. You would thank me for x,y. and z."
Anytime I would do the things she asked, and tried making an effort to please her she would say "it doesn't matter, you aren't consistent enough" or something along those lines.
Any time I apologized for screwing up in school, she would say "NO YOU'RE NOT! If you were sorry you wouldn't do x,y,z anymore and I wouldn't have to spend hours on the phone with your teacher advocating for you because I LOVE YOU SOOOO MUCH." I was always bewildered that her LOVE for me somehow manifested in me feeling like crap about myself, or constantly being reminded of my issues.
Due to this, I became obsessed in watching how my peers’ parents interacted with their kids. This started when I was like 5 years old.
My mother never let me forget the mistakes that I made. She always found a way to bring up some failure of mine. She even brought up school suspensions from like 3rd grade in front of my first serious girlfriend when I was a Freshman in high school. It ruined the dinner and I ended up leaving. The odd part about all of this, is if anyone was critical of me or my sisters she would be the first to defend us. If a teacher said I was a loser or something to her on the phone she would lose it on them and threaten their job and to take them "due process."
Then 5 minutes later would be calling me names and gas-lighting me on the car ride home. I remember many car rides where my mother and father would be grilling into me that I would "end up in jail" one day and they were the reason why I "might not" end up in jail. I was like 7 years old when they started throwing this around... I was seriously afraid of getting older.
She was really controlling as well. Trying to advocate for myself growing up was impossible. Every childhood request was met with a "NO." I always asked why, which she saw as combative, but really, I just wanted to know her logic and reason for saying "no" so that I could live with the answer and see the value in her thought process. Her reply to "why" was always "because I said so." She made fun of me when trying to assert myself and reason with her. She would mock me saying I was out for "power and control" and that she wouldn't be manipulated by me.
When I tried reasoning or asserting myself, she would start singing "power annnnnnnd control, poooooower and control, power and controooool" in my face while motioning with her fingers as if she was a maestro of an orchestra.
Anytime she did allow me or my sisters to do anything, she would make clearly impossible standards for us to follow. The second we screwed up, any previous privileges were revoked and used as ammo against. Like "you couldn't follow our impossibly high standards that were intended for you to fail, so now you lose X privileges."
Another thing my mother would do is zero in on something we were looking forward to like a classmate’s birthday, or field trip, or summer event and hold it over our heads and threaten to take it away willy-nilly. But she would take it away over something really small. Like if we kept asking her about something, she would just fly off the rails and say we could no longer attend x birthday party or x event. Because her ability to take something away for something SOOO SMALL AND MINUTE, I or my sisters would usually lose it and argue with her. Then she would just call our aunt or grandparents and tell them how difficult we were being.
She would also use my past failures as to why she said no. Like the reason I can't go to a school friends house over the summer was because "you've proven you can't handle it" or "because I had a busy night on the phone with your teachers." I went to 13 different schools and was in special ed for all of elementary school. When middle-school came I was so obsessed with talking to kids and learning to "be normal" and socialize properly. I genuinely felt like a fraud though, I thought everyone thought about me the same way my mother did.
She drilled into me how in-capable I was. I wasn't allowed to do the most basic things in the house without her consent and approval. I wasn't allowed in the kitchen. I wasn't allowed to get food on my own. She had to prepare every meal for me. Everything in the house ran on a schedule, almost like a penitentiary. One sibling would be in the back yard for an hour, one in the front yard, and two would eat snack in the kitchen. Then when snack was over, the two playing outside would switch and come eat snack, and the two that finished snack would would go outside to play, one in the back yard and one in the front yard.
I had a lock on my door until I was 13 years old. I was locked in my room and let out once a night around 2:30 am to pee.
On weekends I was locked in my room until noon despite being up at 8 am. If I had to pee i would knock on the door but they never answered because they were sleeping. Occasionally I couldn't hold it and would then pee in a cup or a toy bucket or even out the window. When they saw I pee'd when they woke up and came to let me out they would tell me what an animal I was and "this isn't normal behavior."
My sisters were treated worse in this regard. They had developmental disabilities but are fairly high functioning. They were given a portable toilet in each of their rooms and when my parents came for them in the morning, they would make them dump them out in the toilet and wash it out in the shower. My sisters knew the process and always said they would rather do it on their own, but my mother insisted on towering over them and watching them do it EVERY MORNING. My sisters were always embarrassed and demoralized. My mother would watch them brush their teeth every night would make my sisters start the teeth brushing "process" over again if they messed up. "1,2,3,4,5 switch teeth. 1,2,3,4,5 switch teeth. 1,2,3,4,5 switch teeth."
My sisters, however, would come home from school, east snack, then spend an hour outside, then would be locked in their rooms until dinner. They would be let out for dinner, then would watch a 1/2 of TV (one upstairs, the other downstairs) and then be locked in their rooms until morning. My sisters were treated like animals, but they couldn't advocate for themselves. Eventually one of my sisters just started running away any chance she got and was eventually moved into a group home. I was to young to understand how not "normal" my family was. Or else I would have said something. The other sister was moved into a group home when I was 14.
My brother ran away when he was 12 and I was in the 4th grade. He hated our mother and for good reason. Eventually he convinced my mom to let him live with a second cousin of our biological family about a 5-hour drive away. He sent letters occasionally for about 4 months. Eventually we lost contact with him and the family. That was the last I heard from him. Looking back on it, I'm not sure how this worked legally. You don't simply lose contact with a 12-year-old and not have CPS not come around asking where the kiddo is...
My parents interrogated my brother for like 6 hours when he ran away and filmed it. They wanted to know everything he did. There is an old VHS tape with it somewhere and I've been asking for VHS tapes for a long time in the hopes to find it.
My mother controlled every aspect of our lives... She organized everything so that we had no choice but to rely on her. Even to this day occasionally I have a hard time to ordering food or getting a hair-cut because the back of my mind feels un-sure because my mother did give it the "OK."
I was in 6 grade and my mother still monitored my showers. She would turn the shower on for me and would adjust the temperature. I would then get in. Our showers were allowed to last 6 minutes. The first minute I would get wet, then my mother would come in and pour soap into my hand. I would have a minute to wash my hair. After she would come in and pour bodywash into my hand and I would spend the remaining 3-4 minutes to myself. At 6 minutes she would then bang on the door telling me my shower was up.
I finally was allowed to get into the fridge and get food myself when I turned 15. The only reason for that was because I simply stopped listening to her. I slowly learned how backwards our family was and felt somewhat better about standing up to her.
At one point, our aunt and uncle and their two daughters lived with us and our family in the same house. Our cousins were younger than the rest of us and our parents would LOVE the crap out of them. They basically spit in our faces by how much they would do for our cousins. They would isolate themselves with our cousins too.
None of my siblings or me were ever allowed in the living room. However, our cousins would cuddle and watch tv with our parents daily while we were basically kicked to the curb.
My aunt called me about a year ago in tears apologizing that she never did anything or said anything about how badly our parents treated us. She also at the time didn't notice the preferential treatment my cousins got over the rest of us. She noted how unhealthy she realized our side of the family was, this is partially why they moved out and decided to sell the family business and cut ties with my parents...
My mother would use every excuse to yell at the top of her lungs at us. If we didn't respond to her in .5 seconds she would immediately start yelling. Half the time she couldn't hear us responding because she couldn't hear us over her yelling for us bloody murder. EVERY TIME she would yell at us more because we didn't respond quick enough and we knew that would be the first thing we would have to account for before learning why she was calling us in the first place...
She would also curse at us and call us names. I tried taking the moral high road with her (this started when I was like 8-9) and ask her if calling my sisters or me names was appropriate. She would then state that the only reason she was doing that was because we "taught" her how to do it. Another way of excusing her action was repeatedly saying "I'm the parent, you're the child." Yeah, that makes cussing at your kids non-stop right? She was always careful to act this way either in the car, or when my aunt or uncle wasn't home. She then essentially would put an indirect gag order on us by offering us a privilege later.
The second I got a car I would leave home and not come back until curfew. I would wake up at 7 am and wouldn't come home until the last minute my mother’s curfew was. After a while I just stopped showing up at all. I would stay anywhere but with my parents. Eventually my mother came and repo’d the car from my girlfriend’s house.
I moved out when I was 16 to go and play junior hockey in another state for a junior team. I got my GED which my mother signed the waiver for.
I never went home after that.
Even after my hockey career ended @ 18 and I was now on my own I refused to go back home. I slept in my girlfriend’s car for like 6 months until I could get my own place. I bought a car shortly after that and when I was 19 got another car on with a loan.
My parents have still managed to screw me over since. I bought a nice sound system for my car. When I decided to sell the car and get a new one, I took the sound system out and asked my parents if I could store it in their garage because I would be using my dad’s tools, and I thought it was easier to keep it there than lug it back to my apartment, buy the new car, then lug it back to my parents to re-install it. They said yes.
I bought the new car a few weeks later, (it had to be transported to my home state from California and the title had to be converted from an electronic title to a physical one for my credit union) and when I called my parents to ask when I could come by to install the sound system in my new car, my father notified me that they sold the sound system on craiglist... WHAAAAAAT? Yep, they sold my sound system for $200 on craigslist 3 days before the new one was delivered... I paid $2800-ish for the sound system like 4 months before. My father's reasoning was that I owed them money for a road bike they helped me purchase over the summer when I was 14. They chipped in like $50 bucks for it and that was like 6 years ago at the time. WTF????
The second major thing was I was planning on moving to Vegas when I was 21 and working the WSOP. Two days before I was going to move there my cars clutch went out. I couldn't fix it in two days and my parents offered to let me store it at their town home until I could fly back and fix it or returned home from working the WSOP 3 months later. I owed money to my credit union on the car still. So, I flew out, and attended orientation and worked the WSOP at the RIO.
Two months into the WSOP I got a phone call from my bank stating they had seized and repo'd my car back from a towing company... WHAAAAAT?
Apparently the HOA of my parent’s townhome had my car towed. It sat in impound accruing fees for two weeks and the bank paid the fees and took the car back. They stated I had 7 days to pay the towing fees, and the remaining balance on my car loan or they would auction my car and I would be billed the difference of what I owed on the loan...
I called my parents. They said the car got towed. My dad said he noticed the "notice of tow warning" sticker stating I had 7 days to move the vehicle or it would be towed. I asked why they didn't call me and tell me it would be towed. I could have easily used my AAA and moved it to my GF's house or my friend’s house...
My parents said "It isn't our responsibility to notify you. That's your responsibility, we were doing you a favor letting you store it here." WHAAAAAAAAAT? According to my mother, my dad told her about the warning sticker and that it would be towed in 7 days and they still didn't feel the need to call me while I was in Vegas. Their excuse was that I wasn't making payment on it anyways. Well, I was making payments. Just because I couldn't foot the bill on paying $1200 or more to have the clutch fixed two days before moving to Vegas in addition to having the money to get there and pay first and last month’s rent doesn't mean I wasn't making payments.
(As I'm writing this I decided to call my dad and ask why they didn't call me and tell me about the notice, despite this happening years ago. I recorded the conversation. I'll post a link to it when I upload it to YouTube. I might try and get my mother on the phone and hear her take on the issue and post that too, but she'll know its coming so I'll have to spring it on her.)
Either way I lost the car and have been stuck paying off the remaining $4000ish I owe on the car... All they had to do was call me and tell me about the tow sticker and I could have moved the car, and had it fixed in a few weeks when the series ended.
The kicker of all this? Right before I moved to Vegas, I confronted my mother about sexual abuse in the early years of my adoption from my father. She insisted that my father would never do something like that. I had vivid memories convincing me otherwise. I was also doing EMDR therapy at the time and working through some of that stuff.
For the sake keeping the peace, I accepted the idea that she was right about nothing ever happening and asked her not to tell my dad that I had mentioned it to her. The next day I came over to gather a few items before I flew out to Vegas, and my father came storming out and started yelling at me at the top of his lungs about "how dare you accuse me of abusing you." He cursed at me and a few of the neighbors were out. He started yelling about my sexual conquests they knew about with my girlfriends and how I would sneak out when I was 14 and go to my GF's house and her parents would catch us doing the deed in their RV in the early morning hours... Doth Protest too much "dad."
I'm sure he didn't call about the car because I brought that up. Since moving to Vegas for the first time, I didn't speak to him for about 2 years. The rest of the family like my aunt/uncle and grandparents wouldn't speak to me either. My parents were going around telling them I was "crazy" and not doing well.
My parents suck. My mother is the worst of the two. But they feed of each other. I haven't been to family Christmas in like 5 years.
I visited one of my sister and her host home recently and she broke down crying. All she can talk about with me was about how bad things were growing up and she just wants an apology from our mother. She feels rejected by the rest of our family and they don't speak to her partially because our mother paints her in a bad light to the rest of the family. My sister's provider pulled me aside and told me how depressed my sister has been about the family stuff and asked me if x,y,z, events were true growing up... Yes, yes, they are true. Hey jaw dropped. My sister’s provider refuses to speak with my mother about my sister anymore.
My mother was really good at damage control with the rest of the family growing up. She would get the whole family to believe how hard we were and that she was just trying to keep us safe and never controlled or gas-lighted us.
I do not intend to go to her funeral when she passes one day. My children will never meet her.
Same goes for my "father."
They can rot, as far as I'm concerned. I've never once heard them admit fault, take responsibility, or apologize, me anyone in any situation.
I hope they got "their reward before men."
They always wondered why we couldn't bond with them in therapy. Well I know why...

Knocked out of tourney - Rate my play

I have been playing poker for over 10 years (almost 30 years old). I used to play semi pro down in Southern California for a few years while going to college to pay the bills, going every other day during the week for nearly a few years.
I moved to Austin, Texas not too long ago and they unfortunately do not have any casinos close by, but they do have a really awesome league called the "Texas Fantasy Poker League." A company will go into bars/restaurants and host freerolls. The winners get points towards a big tournament every year to play in the WSOP. It's really a smart business idea because it drives people into bars/restaurants during the week where it's typically slow. Generates some extra cash for the business.
Also, another great perk is that if someone gets knocked out, they can get back into the tourney by purchasing a round of drinks for everyone. One guy went all in 1st hand and before you know it, I've got a free beer in front of me. No tip required because it's on his credit card. :)
Anyways, I haven't played a live game in maybe over 2 years so I wanted to give you an idea that I knowledgeable of the game but very rusty, wanted to get an idea of what you thought about this hand.
I'm BB (400/800) with 6 minutes left until next level (levels are 12 min). I have about 18K. There's 4 tables and if I had to guess I was below the average and ranked somewhere around 20/32. When people buy back in they also get more chips. Those that have merchandise from TFLP.net also get a bonus 5K to start the tournament.
Anyways, 3 people at my table have about 40K and everyone else is around where I'm at.
I have Ad 10s
BB+1 calls BB+3 raises to 3700 BB+4 calls BB+6 calls SB calls Action is now on me. I thought about pushing but would likely get a call from the original raiser because he's been playing semi tight and the look on his face appeared to be that he had a high pair.
I decide to call because there is too much in the pot to fold with me already 800 in. The guy to my left also calls (Biggest stack at the table, regular player in the league, plays premium hands).
Flop comes As 2d 4s
SB checks to me.
At this point I feel like with the Ace pair I'm probably good because of the following:
If the originally raiser has a high pocket pair, I have him beat.
The guy to my left is a good regular player. He's raised with premium hands. If he had an ace, he would've re-popped it with the amount of chips he had.
Everyone else at the table has been playing really loose except for SB who is an 80 year old NIT. The only one that scares me is this chick that was eating some chocolate ice cream that has been playing extremely tight. She just called preflop so I put her on a mid range pair or something like QJ suited.
I figure I'm good unless someone hit a set or is lucky with A 2 or A 4. With the next level being 500/1000, I could definitely see one more round of cards but then I'm all in anyways within 8-10 hands because blinds then go to 1000/2000.
With the pot I believe to be 22,200 and all of this reasoning factored in I went all in. I could always hit a TEN for two pair or runner runner flush.
The guy to my left IMMEDIATELY snap goes all in. I figure I have him beat by the quicker or he got lucky with that A 2/ A 4 because he would likely raise all in with small pairs (he did it before).
The original raiser thinks long and hard about it. My read was correct and he has KK or QQ. He nearly has the same amount of chips as me so there's no way he's folding an ace with solid kicker or flush draw.
Now it gets to that chocolate eating chick. She snap goes all in with 30K.
We all flip.
Guy to my left has A 8.
Chocolate chick has 6 3 off suit (she needs a fuckin 5 gutshot)
Turn is a 7.
River is a 5.
DUH FUQ?
Why she risked her whole tournament on a gutshot you ask me....maybe because she was able to buy back in?
So gents and gentas, what do you think? If anything I really don't think I played it wrong post flop because that is a pretty good flop for me. If anything I feel like I should've just went all in pre-flop but IDK why I would want to do that with A 10 offsuit when a whole table calls and the original raiser would definitely call me with a pocket pair.
Thoughts?

Info and questions about WSOP.com's Nevada-only restriction

I am new to /poker, so please be gentle if this is not ok to post here, but I recently had a conversation with WSOP support and thought I'd share my findings and ask if anyone has any more info.
I live in California, and often stay near Vegas at a friend's, we usually hit up a tournament or two. I was really happy to find out that WSOP.com is up and running for Nevadans, but I wanted to get some info about how they check your location, so I contacted support. I told the representative that my address is in CA, while my computer and phone are often in NV, and asked if I would always need to verify via text message, or if I could leave my phone behind in CA and have the software simply check my computer's IP address ("may I please proxy in to your service?"). He said that I would need to have my phone with me whenever I log in, though there wouldn't be a text message.
This seems strange to me. I didn't install a phone app, and I only replied "YES" to one text message. Do they have a deal with every phone carrier in Nevada where after you give them permission, they can always check to see which cell tower your phone is closest to? That seems like quite a lot every time you log in just for a poker program. Does anyone here know how the phone thing works, if they actually check cell towers every time you log in, or if there is any way a Californian who has friends in Nevada and often is in town can play?

What happened between you and Sam Grizzle? Sam Grizzle!?! Sam has always been one of the funniest guys in the poker world: huge personality! One day he asked me to save him a seat in a game while he went to eat. After 90 minutes, I made the casino stop taking his $9 every 30 minutes, cause so much time had passed, AND then he shows up and the game is full, DOH! So he wants to fight me...I say, well you better do it this week while my back is out, and suddenly I'm in my first and only fist fight ive ever had in the poker world! We both land punches, but next day not a mark on either of us (BEST FIGHT EVER cause no one was hurt).
Could you have done more to help recover player's money on Ultimate Bet? What do you think of Russ Hamilton? What were your thoughts about the superuser scandal at UB? Are you still good friends with Greg Pierson? What cable networks can one find PokerCentral? I was proud to have had a big role in forcing an investigation at UB, which led to $25 million being returned to the players. People said I should have left the site, and that would have been easy to do as I was wanted by Full Tilt. But I saw another pro get haunted for years because the site he repped DID NOT pay the players back. Staying was the right move, and I was happy when the players were paid back. I was also happy when evidence emerged a few years later that made it clear that I wasn't aware of what was happening. The poker world stuck by, but the evidence was nice and completely shut up the haters.
Hi Phil. What's the future for online poker in the US? Should there be one? Legalized online poker is coming; 100%! It is simply a question of when...Amazingly, one person has stopped legalized online poker: one person! Mr Sheldon Adelson: and he spends $100 million every year funding politicians...However, David Baazov (poker big hope) is fighting hard, and effectively, for legalization. I'm hoping for full legalization in California, and then many of us, and the experts, believe it will spread accross the USA.
Do you realize your constant name dropping on twitter is annoying? why do you do it? although you come across as an alpha do you suffer from little man? Put yourself in my shoes for one second. When you're lucky enough you hang out w great people, are you NOT supposed to talk about it? People tweet about what they do, who they hang out with, etc...And I'm lucky to hang out w great people. Saturday I MC President Clinton's Charity Poker Tourney in San Fran (whoops, looks like I'm name dropping again!) -Hmmm...Maybe this time I did name drop.
How in the the hell do you deal with those beats where you are 90%+ with just the river left and wind up getting busted...well besides the obligatory bitching and moaning? Obviously I whine too much because I'm the Poker Brat!
But I try really hard to NOT let any bad luck I have at the tables affect me away from the tables. I have gotten better and better at this over the years, but I'm sure my wife will tell you i was bad at this in my twenties and thirties. I don't want that stuff to impact my relations w my friends and family in a negative way...
Is it true you started playing poker (and winning) against your college professors? Yes, I did play against two professors at the Univ of Wisconsin way back in 1984! In that game, we also had Psychiatrists, lawyers, and doctors. None of them were under the age of 40, and I was 20. Each was a professional w multiple degrees, I was an undergrad. But i'm pretty good at this thing we call "Poker"
How did this come about? Did one of your professors just invite you to their weekly poker game? I'd love it if this happened to me haha. I started in the smaller games at UW, at the Memorial Union, and as I crushed that game, then I found the bigger games, until I made it into the "Docs game." I once won $2,700 in one night in that game, in about 1985! Seemed like a fortune to me then!
Hey Phil, do you feel that the live poker scene has improved as a result of Black Friday? Would you actually prefer to keep things the way they are now, or would you rather see online play legalized tomorrow? It is better for the poker world w online poker up and running in the USA. More people, more players, more endorsement money, more television. Bigger is better!
As to the effect it has had on the live poker scene, i am sure that all of these players are ready for another massive influx of players. Poker needs legalized online poker in the USA.
Are there any elements of the game that you enjoy which the average person wouldn't think about (due to not having as much experience as yourself)? Yes, the element of figuring things out that others do not see. I'm not as sharp as the characters from the "Mentalist" or "Sherlock Holmes," but I see things in everyday life that others do not, and I enjoy that. I keep my prism wide open, and sometimes I need 10 hours of sleep a night or more because of it.
Are you still friends with Matusow? Where has he been? Love Mike the mouth! He is OK. He survived a life threatening surgery on his back, and he is still playing high stakes poker, mostly in San Diego...Good guy, good heart, despite what it looks like on television...
Hi, Phil. When did you first realize that you were the greatest poker player in the world? I thought I was the best well BEFORE anyone considered me in that league!! Thinking you're the best, or listening people that say you're the best is dangerous for me. It's better to know I'm good, keep my head down and stay focused on winning bracelets.
Tell us about the new channel - will I get it on Dish? I'm excited about Poker Central! 100 Million people play our game, more than tennis and golf combined, and the future is BRIGHT BRIGHT BRIGHT! It's easy for me to imagine poker 24/7, a lot like the Golf Channel has golf 24/7...
How has the game changed for the better and for the worse since online play has become less prominent? (We played together in Event 3 of the 2009 series, PLOH. Thanks for doing this.) Great question! Sadly, the poker world in the USA has shrank a bit (not too much). With entries down at the WSOP from the good old days, a lot less television (I miss Poker After Dark), and less sponorship deals for US players. However, the rest of the world has seen a lot less shrinkage.
It was really cold, okay?! Also, Rounders 2? Are you involved in the talks? What is actually going on there, if you know? I talked to the writer of Rounders, Brian Koppleman, on his show. And was pretty sure Rounders II was going to get made. Rounders did $150 million on DVD, so why not?
Hi, I am a Japanese. What is your image about Japan and Japanese poker players? Because of the link that my kids have had to Japanese pop culture, I expected a quid-pro-quo re the popularity of poker, but I was saddened when I was told that poker was illegal in Japan! Still, tough Japanese poker players are emerging.
Your career has stretched through the rise and fall of poker's popularity, particularly in the United States. What do you think needs to be done to ignite another "Moneymaker Effect"-style boom of poker interest? A bigger BOOM is coming when the USA legalizes online poker again! We have witnessed this in Italy, France, and Russia when online poker was actually legalized, and the operators were shocked because they had 10 times as many people play (10X) than was expected. Ditto in the USA: coming soon...
Have you ever sat at a table with Norm MacDonald? If so, what was like to play with him? Norm and I just seem to have hit it off well from day one, although we don't see each other very often. I live in Bay Area, he lives in LA, and were both busy. Nice guy! Canadian...
If you can only root for one team, Packers or Niners? Bracelet that means the most to you other than the '89 Main Event. Packers AND Niners! Lifelong Packers fan, but my friend Jed York owns the Niners, I spoke to the team, and my other friend Jim Harbaugh used to coach them. Winning the 2012 WSOPE Main Events in Cannes (Bracelet 13) was amazing!
Is your "Poker Brat" personna just an act for the cameras, or do you really lose control of yourself and your emotions at the table? Unfortunately, I DO lose control sometimes! But a lot less than the world thinks or understands...If I lose it, then ESPN is there to play it over and over, but when I'm good they aren't using that footage as much.
What is the funniest tell you've seen? Nothing like the ones in Rounders or other TV shows or movies! But one guy always talked when he had it, and always shut up we he didn't. We call it "Hollywooding"
Hey Phil! Where is your favorite place outside of Vegas to play poker? My home game in the Bay Area. Filled w the "Masters of the universe," I love these guys and they have become my best friends. Other than that, the LA poker scene is vibrant...
Hey Phil, I've always wondered how you felt about Tony G lying when he said he did not see his hand on The Big Game. Is this something you've forgiven him for? I did not respect this move and thought it bad bad form. I forgave Tony G, because I forgive everyone so that I don't waste any of my time hating anyone. But I still feel like he owes me $16,000!
Do you think you are the best poker player at the moment? I'm pretty good! Let me keep my head down and focus and in 30 years lets see where people rank me in the pantheon of great poker players.
What is your take on Phil Laak? I love Phil Laak! He is a goofball, much like how me and many of us in the poker world are goofballs. Very creative guy...

Great app undrtone. Just signed up. My question: how do you organize your music? Use Itunes? Other apps? Playlists? Examples of playlist names? Im the worst at organizing my music. but for the most part I use Itunes. Because of my job I still buy music. I need the files to edit with. I am constantly making folders with playlists. But They are mostly job related. Example, if im working on an acura commercial or patron commercial. I just throw in a bunch of songs that I know would work then it just sits there ha.
Do you have a personal preference between Kendrick Lamar and the new A$AP Rocky album? Do you hink either one is better for soundtracks? Also... 'sup. I love A$AP's new album... I havent had a chance to fully digest it yet. But I gave it a "first listen" scan and think its amazing. Wavybone is a jam. Also diggin MAX B. Kendricks album is tough for synchs bc he is so lyrical. Thats not always the best for tv or film. However, I just put "Alright" in Ballers. People gonna love it
How was the process in choosing the end credits song for Entourage episodes? Did you watch the episode first then chose the song based on the feel of the episode? I usually put all the songs i think are "end credit worthy" in a folder as im listening to music in my personal life. When I get to those spots in projects im working on. I just go through them all until one makes sense. Some times I watch the scene and a light bulb goes off. "Oh this song would be great here."
How did you get into your current line of work? The Entourage episode with Jay-Z's "Lucifer" made me a fan of yours. The timing of it was perfect. Probably the best tv ep outro song ever. Thank u... that song is exactly how i got my job! My friend created the show (Doug Ellin) and we were driving in his car to go play basketball. I put in Jay Z CD (you guys remember those) and he said whats that song. I love it. Lets make that the end credit song. Then the show got picked up and I had a job. go figure.
Has there been a song that you REALLY wanted to use to picture but got cut for various reasons? if so what is that track? Follow up: What artists are you listening to now that the public doesn't know about that should! I tried to get Smif N Wessun "Bucktown" and "Sound Bwoy Bureill" in Entourage movie but couldnt because of samples. Also "I'm That Type of Ni**a" by Pharcyde... no such luck on any of em. I love this song called "Warm" by SG Lewis, "How Do You Love Me" by SPZRKT & Sango, and "Quite Like" by HER.
How do you go about finding good new music, other than having people send it to you? I constantly surf the web and source out passionate people who love music. i have a folder of over 30 kids and their blogs. I bet no one even knows about their blogs or how talented they are. one day when i become richmogul i hope to repay them :)
Best concert you ever went to? I dont know if it the word "best" applies. But the concert I had the strongest connection to was an Arcade Fire show at Coachella a few years ago. Not the last one but the one before...
I love them live as well! By 'strongest connection' do you mean you balled your eyes out? Nah just felt connected to the show.
Good Afternoon, Thank you for doing this. How does an Indy artist get their music in youyour peers hands for projects like "DOPE" and "ENTOURAGE"? Also, in the case of Rapper "Saigon" did you find him and break him with those episodes? Thank you! I didnt find Saigon. He was actually friends with a girl who worked on the show and she brought him in to meet the producers. Everyone thought he was the nicest guy and they wrote a storyline for him. you can post those songs to my app and tag me... ill listen.
Best scene/music 'moment' in the Entourage Series for you personally? My favorite was "In My Lifetime" remix by Jay Z at the end of season 6 i believe. I actually made a list of my 10 favorite end credit spots and why on Link to www.undrtone.com
I saw Entourage last night, and loved it! How long does your process work? how do you know when a song is right for a scene? Awesome job! Do you mind buying more tix? If we get to $100m i get a bonus lol It takes a while. there was actually 40+ songs in the movie. Most of them you dont even notice. its a lot of trial and error
Do you have any kind of formal background in music through education or your career? NO. I'm scared to learn how to play music. Once I learned how movies were made I started to hate them all. I really go by how it makes me feel more than knowing its technically "good"
Is music your passion and if yes then how did you find that it was? I always loved music. I never thought that I would some day work in music. I just told my good friend the music on his show sucked and some how wound up here today lol
Favorite places to find good new music online? Specifics! And how do you organize your music? See above about my folder of kids i follow... you may be one of them! i am not organized. i need someone to help me organize all my music. its hard!!!
Where can we find a list of all the songs used in the film? I dont have a list of all the songs but I could start posting them on my app next week... keep checking. I still want people to be surprised
Who is funnier: Matt Salsberg or Ben Baller? Do you play PLO Cash? I dont play PLO cash big. only small. I like heads up online best. Ben might be funnier bc hes not tryin to be funny :)
Why do you think How to Make it in America didn't make it? I have some idea of why but i think mostly because all you kids who loved the show didnt watch it on HBO. You waited for it on the Torrent sites ha.
We should hang out, smoke, analyze music so I can get paid while doing what you're doing. How does that happen? You can use my app. send me 10 of your favorite songs. reference that we spoke here. If I like them I will contact you. Maybe we can figure something out.
What are your plans now that Entourage is done? Looking into anymore films? Headed to the World series of poker and working on a radio show (coming soon)
Hey Scott. Love the placements brother. Whats the best way to send you some links to music? My group just cut a record in Joshua Tree would love for you to hear it. Joshua Tree sounds cool. I hope you had "fun" making it. you can tag me on my app Link to www.undrtone.com and i promise to listen...
What are some of the accounts you follow on the secret Instagram mentioned in your Complex interview? Or are those a secret too? That I will never tell but there is an underground music scene on Instagram that is amazing!!!
What events are you playing at WSOP? Do u think that guy cheated in the 10k headsup? Do you listen to music while you play poker? Playing millionaire maker this weekend. What happen in 10k? i missed it. i was working all day
Where did you find the In It For The Kill Skream remix? I wish I remembered. def on a blog. never thought I'd be able to use it on TV.
Who are some of your favorite up and coming artists? SG Lewis, Rationale, Allison Taylor and Elliphant
I'm a huge Entourage fan and I think the credits songs enhanced each episode. What was your favorite episode and what song did you add to the end of it? My favorite episode was the last one. we ended it with "Going to California" by Led Zeppelin
Do you source music from sites like Broadjam and Music XRay? Never heard of them. are they music libraries?
I'm not a Music X-Ray member, so I can only speak about Broadjam: for a fee, they connect independent composers with licensing opportunities. Most of the opportunity providers are library owners and A&R folks. Hmm. i dont know much about those but I dont like the idea of an artist paying a fee to reach people like me. Especially in this day and age. Social media. You can find us and guess what. I dont think they have an easier way of reaching me (or people like me) than u do. Good music rises to the top. save your money for making more music.
Do you have a preference for the speakers/headphones you listen on? If so, which do you enjoy the most? When im working I like to use my JBL LSR's
What did you think of the TIDAL rollout? I think there is room for everyone.
Who are some of your favourite Australian artists? Love all your work, movie was dope and so was the music in it, cheers. Tame Impala is great. They are in the movie and on the soundtrack.
I thought the placement of "elephant" in the new movie was perfect...well done. Thanks. the editor made me look good on that one.
Out of college need a job, what you do seems like a dream come truu, how do you get into this line of work? Luck... i answered above... it doesnt pay well but its fun :)
How poorly does it pay? what kind of car do you drive? Uber.

Loved you in Willow! what was it like being a brownie??? 25th Anniversay, yo!!! It was my first real film, and I have Rick Overton to thank for putting me on the short list when Ron Howard cast him and asked who else he would like to have come in a audition for his scene mate. Then, they shot the entire film in Wales and New Zealand, while Rick and I got to work on the largest blue screen stage (at the time) up in Northern California. My fav moment may have been when I introduced my father to George Lucas (the producer of the film) and my dad said (in true Homer fashion) "Nice to meet you. I really liked 'E.T.'..." Doh!
Do you have a voice in your act that you no longer do because people don't recognize it anymore? And do you miss being able to do it? Thanks for doing this AMA. Now if you'll excuse me, I'm off to fuck myself. This is a really great question because I miss a few TERRIBLY... Johnny Carson is a voice I take pride in, because I can really get inside his cadence - I love to speak random song lyrics as him, which is fun at the poker table especially. Dudley Moore, Jimmy Stewart and my high school football coach.
So I have heard on the set of Usual Suspects that the opening scene where everyone is being interviewed and asked to say the same line, everyone kept cracking up and Bryan Singer kept yelling at all you to cut it out...what exactly is the story behind that? Why was everyone having a hard time keeping composure during that scene ? Again, not to be a promoting dick of my book, but the only way to really get a sense of what the fuck caused the whole thing is to read the many pages I devoted to this in the book. Having said that, we just couldn't stop laughing that day for several reasons: Baldwin making faces and screaming, Benecio mumbling took on new heights, and Gabriel laughing was the best, because he was so hard to crack up. At lunch, Bryan told us we had fucked the first half of the day and that we just couldn't afford to waist that much film that cost 5 mil and was shot in under 6 weeks (we were all paid coffee donuts), but that was like telling 9 year olds to not laugh at the funeral, and we fucked up the rest of the day without meaning to. To his credit, though, he took those "outtakes" and made the most memorable scene of the film.
Who is your favorite impersonation? I personally like your Jason Statham. Statham is my new fav, yes. But I can talk as Christopher Walken for hours without realizing I'm doing it...and that makes me very happy.
Is there something wrong with that...weird...eye? Cross the Ts and dot the...lowercase Js.
Best known celebrity to play poker with? Toughest poker opponent you've played with? Best to play with suggests I always take their money, as opposed to the best poker playing celeb, which might well be Ben Affleck, that Oscar-winning mutha fucka. Best poker player I've faced is Daniel Negreanu, who I felted in my first WSOP Main Event this past July. It fucked me up, actually, because I love his style of play so much that it was like beating your father in one-on-one in the driveway the first time...
Your impression of Alan Arkin was absolutely hilarious! Watched your stand-up The Littlest Suspect. How do you get so good at doing those voices? 1st, I leave it on my outgoing voicemail and gage the responses. Next step, I bring it on stage and see what strangers think of it.
Who do admire most as an actor and why? Jeff Bridges and Gene Hackman are my two favorite actors. Neither have ever given a performance that isn't just genius, but also different than their last. Being sincerely complimented by Gene Hackman the one time we met, was the single greatest achievement, for me personally.
How awesome is Don Rickles? Any chance you'll get him as a guest on the Chat Show? The longer version of this is available and oh-so hiLARious in my book, How I Slept My Way To The Middle, of course, but in a nutshell, watching him rip De Niro a new asshole was nirvana...
Kevin, big fan and aspiring NYC improv/stand up/impersonation comedian here. Are there any impressions that took you some time to master? What is your process? What were the hardest ones to pick up? You rock! Put in your 10,000 hours is my only advice. It all gets crazy easier after you've done the time. I'm lazy, of course, so while I put in my time, I only do the ones that come naturally, but mostly I do people that I'm obsessed by in real life... Good luck!!
Kevin, thanks for doing the AMA. Big fan of your work. I think you have become a master at the long-form interview after listening to KPCS. Do you find it easy to navigate the 2+ hours they often tend to be? Have there been any revelations admitted by guests that took you by surprise? Thanks!! Getting Christopher Guest to even talk on camera was a miracle, and if you knew him you'd be shocked by how much he spoke about. At the end of hour hour plus chat, CEO and Founder of Tesla Motors and Space X, Elon Musk ( I LOVE my Model S !!!), started talking about his recent divorce and insisted that the rumors that he had abandoned his children were more disturbing to him than anything he'd been through in life.
Was the Yanni Gogolak line "Don't BE long" your idea? Also a great question! And a good example of why Matthew Perry is one of the funniest co-starts I've ever worked with. He not only gave me that line (seconds before I was to say it while filming), but several others that are quoted back to me on the street by real fans of the film. He's a master at the "beat the joke" game.
Is Kevin Pollak your birthname or a stage name? Birth, but I did ask my mother if I could change it when I was 11 years old, and had decided I would spend my life in show business. I told her it just felt too clunky... I actually wanted to change it to Kevin Klein (her maden name) as it felt more cinematic. This was long before Kevin Kline was famous, btw.
What about it pretzel man, what's your story? That was MY improvised line - Ha! Good memory, ya fuck, ya.
Do you want to play poker wiith me and my buddies next time you are in the Cincinnati area? We've got snacks... What kind of snacks...?
Besides your own, are there any other podcasts that you enjoy? My gal pal, Jaime Fox, turned me onto Scott Aukerman's Comedy Bang Bang, which I'm now completely hooked on. I also love How Did This Get Made and Pod F. Tompkast is ALWAYS funny as hell.
You are not in enough movies. When I see you in a movie now, I think I've found a little treasure that outshines the rest of the show. I'm so glad you've taken up podcasting! What has been your most challenging interview so far? As much of a coup as it was booking her, getting a laugh or even a smile out of Jane Campion made for the most difficult chat show session.
Who's the funniest Pro Poker player you've played against? He's FAR from a pro poker player, but there's NO ONE funnier at the table than Richard Kind...
Do you have any interesting is doing more directing? I wrote a little contemporary film noir detective thing that I'm suppose to be directing soon, so here's hoping that happens! please... Kickstarter...?
What's your favorite project that you're working on at the moment? IMDB lists quite a few films that you're a part of in the next year or so. What should I be watching out for? Just finished playing the estranged son of Jerry Lewis in a indie fucked-up-family drama, which was surreal and great to do. Another indie with A.J. Michalka called Grace Unplugged is screening to better than expected responses, so that's always a relief... And as I mentioned, I hope the Beverly Hills Cop pilot turns into a great series that you know and love. Barry Sonnenfeld is directing it, so that's fucking amazing and Shawn Ryan is the head writeshow runner which is also dreamlike.
Hey Kevin, where do you see the future of podcasting? And do you see the increase in popularity of non-traditional media as a slow growth or as an indicator that traditional network entertainment is dying? We launched on Earwolf.com today, and we're extremely excited about the future of this collaboration. Traditional media will always be around, but it's diminishing returns are proof positive that new media is winning! Having said that, I hope like hell the Beverly Hills Cop pilot I'm doing runs as a beloved tv series for 6 and 3 quarters years...
Since the "podcast boom" a few years ago do you think its helped or hurt comedy for the new generation of comics? WAY more helpful. Just in terms of exposing comics to a devoted audience of of this newish artform, it's greatly helpful. Also, it a place where you can actually work on your act.
Kevin, On your last Opie & Anthony show visit, how big of an ego stroke was it to have Jay Mohr kiss the ring when it came to Walken impressions? Always love your appearances on the show and how candid you are. You're a boss, Mr. Pollak, a boss. LOVE to do O & A!! That was shocking, actually, when I got the Mohr nod because he was the first that I had ever seen do it, and SO brilliantly at that.
Kevin! Seanthings reporting in! Who would you love to have on the Chatshow that hasn't been on yet? Albert Brooks has promised to come on, but until he does he remains my #1 wish. Walken, obviously...
Love it when you sit in as third mic on Opie & Anthony, Kevin, especially the day you told the Michael Clarke Duncan story. My favorite role of yours, however, was as the President in "Deterrence", a movie a lot of people haven't seen. Does it bother you that it's not a better-known film? Again, LOVE O&A and doing their show is always something I get excited about more than the others. It bugs the SHIT out of me that more people haven't seen "Deterrence," because I just dig the film and films like it, as a film geek.

Questions Answers
Anyway what is one battle that you would show to people who have not seen a battle before? One of the best battles to show someone unfamiliar with the scene is Kid Twist vs DumbFounDead because it just has a universal comedic appeal. If they like more "rap" type stuff then Pass vs Hollow for sure.
what is your favourite battle that you have done? My favorite battle that Ive done is probably vs DumbFounDead, maybe Hollohan as a close 2nd because that was my first trip to Canada. And of course the first jumpoff final in vegas.
Also what battlers do you rate the most from Dont Flop? My favorites in DF are Unan, Eurgh & Cruger of course, Soul, Deff, Matter, Shuffle T & Marlo.
How much weed/oil/wax do you go through on any given day? - if you could get one beat from any producer today, who? I pretty much strictly smoke wax now, i just reload my micro G maybe 3 times a day to stay vaped. Take a dab or two throughout the day as well.
Alchemist is THAT DUDE.
Did the altercation with manik go any further than what was on camera? Was probably the biggest bitchmove in all of battle rap, catching feelings over such a non personal battle.. The drama from the Manik battle was deaded outside the venue immediately afterward. Everything's all good, it just got heated.
If you had your current frame of mind in regard to reacting to shock value bars, would you have reacted any differently in the 2v2 vs Po and Diaz? My current frame of mind is no different now than it was then regarding bars about the deceased.
Wait i do have a question actually. you had said to me once that taking LSD opened up your mind to be able to freestyle as well as you do. can you explain and expand on this? As a youngster i did hella LSD lol. Honestly it just assisted/fried my brain into looking at things in a different context to the point of where I basically processed everything backwards when i would freestyle. Id see the punchline/payoff line and then I would just sort of subconsciously rhyme myself to that point almost on autopilot. Shit was fucked up haha.
Well hello sir. My only question for you is ... when are we going to kick it again my old friend!!? You BETTER be at WD4 bro. I miss hangin out with the Gawd. Holler at me fam.
I won't be there unfortunately, but I'm thinking I might take a trip to California again sometime so I'll let you know. Hell yeah lemme know fam. Youre always welcome in Cali.
Did you ever battle eyedea (RIP)? Do you ever get angry at shit people say about you during battles? Never battled Eyedea unfortunately. He was a huge influence Im at the point now where nothing bothers me at all in battles. If someone brings up my dad disrespectfully I just think less of them as a human now.
Also could you brag a little? What's your best line/ battle you've ever had? Best battle was vs DumbFounDead I think.
Yo man, cheers for the years of entertainment. Your 05 Justice battle is probably my favorite of all time, and your Hollohan match is another I watch regularly. And who stole the tapes?! What did we miss? I dunno who stole the tapes for certain hahahahahaha. We all have our theories tho.
Excluding yourself, do you have a current Top 5 or any match-ups you would either like to see or be in? Do you have a favorite battle of yours? Current top 5 as of Today - Real Deal, Aye Verb, Big T, JC, Daylyt.
Have you ever done an online text battle and would you admit if you had? Hahaha yes. I have. Way back in the day.
Okay, a few more, haha. He wrote all 3 rounds.
In your battle with Solomon, do you think he came with mostly writtens while you were mostly freestyling? That seemed to be the impression I got. Also, how often does a battle linger? Similar to a bad beat, say if you think about a rebuttal you could have had that you thought of later? A battle doesnt really linger, I dont ever worry about the judges votes or outcome. Unless theres money on the line.
, I know the answer, at least the official one, but did you and Mac Lethal actually not discuss rhyme schemes and/or possible rebuttals before the battle? No. We booked Mac's flight 8 hours before the event began. We didnt have time to do anything like that.
How much do you profit on an average year from poker? What's your biggest tournament or cash game win in a single sitting? Do you think you beat Real Deal? Ive averaged 55k a year playing poker since I started playing full time 10 years ago. Only had one losing year, two years close to break even and a steady increase every year since 2007 once I had more of a padding to my bankroll. The best I've ever done in a day is 38k in 24 hours. Beat up a cash game for 7700, played directly into their noon tourney which i chopped for 17k and then won almost another 15k playing cash after that just riding the rush.
I beat real Deal, Two Times™
How the hell do you make more profit now that 07? Games were crazy soft back then. Because I started playing bigger and also got a shitload better. particularly in MTTs.
Why do you think URL/Smack-style rappers haven't adopted freestyle or rebuttles as much as KOTD/Grindtime/Don't Flop rappers? Freestyling is something that such a small percentage of the world can actually do. And pretty much everyone who is given the opportunity to write instead of freestyle is gonna maximize their writing. No point in straying from the script if it isnt better than what youve written.
Also, what are the things promoters get right or wrong that viewers don't know about? Promoters think this is an instant gold mine as far as throwing events and whatnot. They dont know how much work & time goes into putting things together and to building a big enough following to be able to make money off of it.
What is your opinion of Lil Wayne as a rapper? He has a few moments of greatness and a lot of nonsense.
When will we see you in the URL? When i get an opponent that Id really like to battle.
Do you feel like the staff at the URL are very selective of who they let on their platform? Is it bad that they're doing that? They are selective and its a good thing to an extent. Its about quality control.
what does it mean personally to get co-signed by Drake? Does it push you further to write battles and make good music? Drake's cosign is an incredible feeling honestly. For him to say anything at all is huge, and for him to speak highly of me is very surreal. Hes a great artist, one of the biggest in the world at the moment and the light hes shining on the battle scene as a whole is really a great look.
Rematch Mac Lethal for a stack of flapjacks? Only if it gets that many views.
What do you think is the best overall TheSaurus performance? And best TheSaurus round? I think my best performance in the written format was vs Dumbfoundead and anyone who was there live could probably attest to it. My best round is a tough call. I liked my 2nd vs DNA, i liked my 3rd vs Ness, my 3rd vs Madness. I'll put more thought into it and come up with a definitive answer.
Hello TheSaurus! Great work first of all. What do you think about the foreign country rap battle fans? Especially the ones where English is not their main language, in terms of verse complexity? What is your Top5 In battle rap right now? Keep it up! I love the foreign fans. I think the fact that battling is now on a global scale is such a huge/positive thing for the scene, everywhere I have gone the fans have been amazing. And the fact that they can process it all in a language that isnt even theirs is very impressive.
Who's your favorite battler that is currently active? Current favorite might be the homie Real Deal. or JC.
How long does it take for you to rehearse your verses? I can memorize verses in less than an hour if need be. All depends of the urgency of it.
Do you think GrindTime will ever make a comeback? Grindtime is done for from the looks of things.
What's your opinion on the controversy behind Arcane and battle raps being bought? How is Organik trying to handle all of that? Are battlers pissed at Dizaster for exposing how often bars are bought? The controversy has blown over for the most part. Basically Pat Stay is his punishment lol. Or its his way to prove that he really deserves to be champ. Either way i think its fitting.
No one's pissed at Diz tho. Battlers dont buy bars. That was one exception.
Back when GrindTime had OT rounds was there ever a time you never got to spit a fourth round you had written that you really liked? Or was there ever an opponent that fell through you had some great material for? Basically please tell some old bars you never got the chance to say haha. I wish I could remember any of that stuff but it was like 2 laptops ago haha. Im sorry man.
Thanks for doing the AMA: My question is simply, how did you get so good at rapping? Relentless practice & work and being lucky enough to be surrounded by some of my biggest positive influences in rap.
What do you make of Mainstream rappers like kanye etc? It seems like all the underground guys spit way better than they do. Im a fan of a lot of mainstream artists. Some of them might not have the same intricate writing styles or depth to their lyrics but they just plain know how to make amazing music that I can relate/vibe to.
Shouts from Manchester UK. How come you have never battled on SMACK/URL ? Ive yet to be offered an opponent that Id have heavy interest in battling.
Mostly live or online? I was a live prop for 6 years. ive mostly played live since i started playing full time.
Biggest live win? (Tourney) Biggest live tourney cash was about 17k.
Cool hope to see you back at Don't Flop again soon dude. I'll be back ina few months!
How do you come up with your raps under pressure? Im used to it. I came up in an era of battling where it was a 32 man tournament and zero preparation. Executing under pressure was the nature of the beast.
How do the raps flow to you? Do you ever find yourself struggling for a word to rhyme with? It just kind of comes to me naturally to tell the truth. Its like a rolodex in my brain. I say or think of a word or phrase and have access to a dozen things that fit the rhyme scheme. Acid brain.
Props for doing this, and all you've done for the movement. Truly Team Legendary. Kind of a reverse of a previous question but, best one I could think of on short notice. Do you feel there were any specific battles where the opponent clearly beat you, but you were awarded the W? What do you think it was due to, if so? Also, do you follow proper-ish bankroll management for your poker endeavors? I thought Matter beat me in Dont Flop but the judges gave their explanations afterwards and its all just their opinions anyhow. The Pat Stay battle is debatable and so is the Real Deal but who am I to argue with an esteemed panel of elite judges lol.
Big fan here with a mediocre question: What's your favorite battle that you've been in? And who do you think (besides you) has the best wordplay skills out of all the battlers on the scene right now? The DumbFouDead & illmac battles are probably my favorites Ive ever been in.
As far as wordplay goes I think KG the Poet is underrated, obviously CHilla is crazy with it, JC is nice too but hes more polished overall.
Why does everyoje feel like they can call you Pete?? Best question yet. Somehow unanswerable.
Have you ever thought about getting on the Dirtbag Dan show? Shit would be hilarious. Yeah itll happen when i can get to the Bay for a weekend. Ive just been in & outta town too much.
How do you feel about Rhymesayers, Atmosphere, Eyedea, and Mac Lethal? Thanks for the AMA! Always been a huge fan of Rhymesayers as a whole. Mac Lethal is the homie and a huge influence on me, always has been. Eyedea was a big influence as well in the freestyle era for me, not so much for his music. Brother Ali is probably my favorite artist under Rhymesayers honestly tho.
You mentioned that Illmaculate was the toughest that you had to prep for- what battler do you think brought the best material against you? Regardless of your own performance. Madness: You got a dirty mechanic's face, but cant fix a pair of brakes You look like you let yourself marinate in nair & mace And the result was your flesh is the same texture as carrot cake.
Since no one else really asked, who are your biggest influences as far as writing goes? Writing wise Mac Lethal was an early influence. Now its more like cats like Bender & only & ill.
What do you look for first in a hip hop song? Structure, content, story telling, flow, wordplay, multies? Top 5 dead or alive? And top 5 up and comers (not battle rap) Content, delivery and the beat.
Since everyones been talking about your battles (rightfully so), talk a bit about your poker, what stakes do you play, what kind of ROI / hourly do you have, I currently play 10/20-25/50 PLO cash, and get extremely good results, how do you do, would you like to furthur discuss poker / have a player to discuss with? I primarily play 1-3 & 5-5 NLH cash & whenever a well structured tourney series comes to LA or Vegas I try to play a handful of events. I was a $20-40 limit prop for a few years then moved on to playing on my own time and since then have had great cash results along with about 100k in tourney cashes live & online. Interestingly a lot of top pros follow the battle scene as well and Ive become friends with some guys who I look up to as players and earn a lot from. Its pretty crazy.
Sounds ballin, did you play the WSOP this year? who are some of those guys, i could imagine galfond, laak, esfandiari probably? or am i way off. Yeah I played 4 events. ive played the main event the last 4 years as well. Jeff Madsen is a homie of mine. Negraneau is a fan, a ton of online pros as well.
Earn or learn? Lol i meant learn but both i guess.
In your honest opinion who is the top battle MC in the world at this very moment? Not just KOTD but across all leagues. Tough call. I prefer Aye Verb but I feel JC is on his way there and Id put Real Deal in that class as well based on consistency and how well written & executed everything tey do is.
What happened to your battle with rone? did that good stuff get postponed? It was cancelled, i believe for budgetary reasons. Hopefully will get booked elsewhere or even thru them in the future.
What are your thoughts on the whole Diz/Caustic/Arcane situation? Do you think there should be a rematch? I wouldnt mind seeing Caustic battle Arcane. A Diz rematch vs Arcane would be interesting too tho in all honesty Charron deserves the next title shot no matter who has the chain.
What battlers music is the best in your opinion? Only One & illmac in my opinion make the best music or at least I listen to theirs the most.
Whatever happened to Bo-Rat?? how come he doesn't battle anymore? i remember you guys had a couple classics back in the scribble days. I kick it with Bo regularly. He lives here in LA and dropped an album a few months ago called Bo Knows Rap. He just got over the battle shit eventually like a lot of battlers did.
Would you ever go and battle on GTN? I would. For 10k.
Your 2 on 2 vs Po and Diaz, anything you'd like to change about that battle. Id like to change... THE OUTCOME.
I follow you on twitter, and see your a poker fanatic, any tips when playing with buddies? Play aggressive, stay relentless. but dont overcommit w/ big raises. Just small ball their life away.
Is singing something that comes naturally or can I improve my vocals without auto tune? Singing can be taught. Autotune wont teach you how, itll just clean things up a little.
I'm English and a massive fan of Don't Flop, (obviously) King Of The Dot, URL, Basementality, etc. and you are the reason i got into battle rap. Must have been a while back but I saw one of your battles and was immediately hooked on written battles. Anyway I have 2 questions -What is you favourite league to battle in and why? -If you could battle any UK rapper from Don't Flop, who you haven't battled already who would it be and why? I still think KOTD is my favorite league to battle in but DF is very close. There are both pretty even honestly. Toronto is one of my favorite cities in the world and they always show me love. And the DF crowd is currently the mot passionate in the world, they are incredible. I have a new DF opponent locked in, youll find out who it is soon!
Is it an English rapper cause there's a long list of guys I wanna see you face In DF, what would be your top pick to battle from these guys? Arkaic YouthOracle Dialect Mr 13 Bamalam Eurgh (again) It is an English rapper.
How do you feel against battling Loonie, How would you prepare for him when most of his battles are in Tagalog? Also, what is you're favorite poker game specifically (NL/ Pot Limit Hold Em'/ Omaha?) I feel great about the battle. Im not doing anything particularly different to prepare. I dont really even watch my opponents battles before I get ready. iw atch other performances that hype me up.
I prefer NLH, Razz and Omaha 8 O/B.
When was the worst time that an opponent of yours humiliated themself? also curious how frequent intergender rap battles happen, i never see them. Thats kind of a tough one, I dunno that ive had an opponent humiliate themselves too badly. Maybe the way Diaz acted after the shove hahaha but we're all good now so I dunno if that even counts.
Intergender battles happen rarely. I believe Ness Lee vs Bonnie Godiva is happening in Sept on iBattle.
Is there any connection or skill parallel between rap battling and playing poker professionally? I guess its made it easier to figure out what approach people are gonna take against me and thus how to dissect that or at least try. And my memory, which is used in different ways for each but still used a lot in both.
Sup saurus... What do u think of rmbva.com? Im down w rmbva. Foreman is the homie, has been for a long time. Shoutout to RMBVA.
Also, any advice for an aspiring alternative rapper? Practice relentlessly. And listen to constructive criticism with an open mind.
As a battle legend you've lived through Battle Rap's transition from more freestyle-over-instrumental oriented battles to more theatrical and rehearsed monologue oriented battles. You've managed to make your lane in both of these forms of battle rap. How do you feel about the transition and which was more enjoyable for you? I will always enjoy the freestyle format more than anything because there was just a different feel to it. I still love the direction battling is taking and I understand completely because there simply arent enough good freestylers to keep everyone entertained for the longevity of the artform.
You've said you can write down your lyrics once and they're basically committed to memory? Would you say you have a photographic memory? How has your memory played a part in your life outside of rapping? By the time Im finished writing a verse its basically committed to memory. My memory is borderline photographic but not fully. I cant memorize phone books or anything. It definitely plays a part in poker, going thru hand histories with opponents & whatnot, it makes life easier in a few ways and allows me to cut some corners on tedious things.
Also, who are the 5 dudes in the world that you think may have a chance of beating you in a pure freestyle battle? Is there anyone that you consider better than yourself? I'll be honest - I dont think there are 5 people who can beat me in a freestyle battle. Charron & NoCanDo would have the best chance of anyone and Ive beaten them both. There was a point where Hollow freestyled avidly but I dont think he does as much now. But realistically thats about it I consider plenty of people better than me at battling especially in the written format. I have no need to tell them who they are tho cause they could be potential opponents so fuck them.
What are your goals in terms of making music? How much harder is it for you to write songs vs. writing for opponents, and why? Waiting for your next album to drop!! Ultimately the goal is to make music that people can universally appreciate on some level. I wouldnt necessarily say that song writing is harder than battle writing but the process is different. The song writing process is more relaxing & therapeutic whereas prepping for a battle is a very aggressive and energetic process, motion creates emotion so to speak. New album coming soon!
Yo TheSaurus! In your opinion, what's the best flip/rebuttal you've ever done? my favourite is your "I fathered this whole scene!" line, I forget who you were up against though. Do you know how much this shit is worth in middle earth?
Is freestyling a skill that needs to be continually honed and worked on, or is it once you've got it, you've got it for good? You definitely have to continue to freestyle to stay good & sharp but other things definitely factor in like state of mind and being well rested and clear headed.
Like, if Justice competed in a freestyle tourney tomorrow, would he still be able to kill cats? Or is the sword not sharp enough? Justice is still a dope rapper in general and Im sure he still thinks of good battle lines on his own. He could come back and do well but I doubt he would do so without testing the waters first.
Long time fan, Ive got three questions for you. And lastly, Soul Khan quit battle rap to focus on his music, he stated you cant do both and have a successful music career, do you agree? I can see his point and I agree to an extent. To have a full on music career you have to put all of your time into touring & promoting yourself as that kind of artist.
How do feel about what some people are calling the demise of Grindtime? A lot of Grindtime artists have moved on to KOTD, how do you feel about league loyalty? I feel like Grindtime's falloff was inevitable because there were too many people running the show and all of them had their own ideas & input but one league can only be pulled in so many directions before it breaks.
Any comments on the changing demographics in battle rap? It has its pros and cons as anything does. Im in full favor of new fans at all times but of course there are gonna be ones that rub people the wrong way haha.
Where do you see this whole battle rap thing goin in the next 5 years Peter? Thanks butt. Well my dominican friend, I think that making it to the mainstream is the next step. With Bow Wow bringing URL over to Freestyle Friday on BET and Nick Cannon bringing Conceited onto Wildin Out they are taking huge steps in integrating battling into mainstream hiphop culture as opposed to a smaller sub culture.
What percentage of your bars that you write for any particular battle would you say end up in your final verse? (How much you throw away/keep) I probably use about 75% of the material I actually wrie. tons of throwaway bars/ideas that dont make the cut.
Whats the best piece of advice you've ever received? Great AMA, you sound like a genuine dude and your battles are always fire. The best advice I ever got was from my mom - As long as you do something that you love for a living you'll never work a day in your life.
Any further talks yet to get you on that URL stage?? We gon see, we gon see.
Thanks for doing this pete! Been watching since wrc, you and illmac started this for me. My question is as follows... Why can someone like dumb, the Palmer squares, and fabolous make multies sound so clean and natural. Where as hopsin and 100 bulletz make them sound awful and forced? I dont know how to really answer the first question because everyone just processes things differently.
Also, when will we.see frees over beats again? I dunno if freestyle battling over beats will ever make a comeback but one can hope.
How do you prepare for a battle? Not so much how do you prepare your bars, but on the day of the battle how do you get in that "I'm the baddest motherfucker alive and everything I say for the next 3 rounds is gonna be fire" head space? Or is confidence just something that comes to you naturally? Cheers, been a big fan since WRC! I watch Aye Verb's 3rd round vs Hitman Holla. I do a lot of pacing around pre-battle and i generally shut the rest of the world out.
The battle scene has seen a lot of changes since 2006 and even the earlier days of Scribble Jam. Yet you've managed to stay near the top all that time. What's next for battle rap? I think the next step is taking battling to the mainstream, which it seems to be doing with URL linking up w BET and with Wildin Out having Conceited on there now. Its only a matter of time before it goes bigger than that.
What battle did you have the most fun writing for? I had a lot of fun writing for DNA. And Ness Lee.
What was your favorite bascheme/round used against you in any battle. Pat Stay's 3rd round is the most entertained I think Ive been by an opponent against me.
In that 2 on 2 in canada where you almost punched a guy, what had you so heated? Rich mentioning my father and then the fact that we told Diaz to stop talking 4 times during our round.
Will you be more inclined to attend Battle of the Zae 2 if there is a make-shift Texas Hold Em setup behind the venue? Nope. Id go to Bay 101 after either way.
Big Fan Thesaurus, been following you and KOTD/URL/GT since you and Arcane battled at WD1. My question is what do you think the best line anyone has ever used against you? Thanks man, and body Loonie for all of us. Wow. that is really tough. illmac's "Actin like a lil bitch right now" was fucking amazing. Lets go with that for now.
Hey, would you ever consider doing a show in Syracuse, New York or something? I'd totally see that. Id consider doing any show as long as the booking was done properly and everything.
Are there any rappers who you have a dislike towards? Like, you can't respect. I honestly get along with just about everyone in the battle scene. There's no one I have beef with or ill feelings towards or any shit like that. I think theres already a built in mutual respect among most battlers just for the fact that we're willing to step in the ring. But Im friends with a ton of these cats outside of battling too and i just generally get along with people pretty well.
EDIT: One last question. How do I develop my flow so words flow nicely and I don't have to have them on top of each other? As far as developing flow that just comes with practice and comfortability.
Have there been any incidents with lines being too personal? I saw that you mentioned Rich, and I don't know who that is. What would I search on YouTube to find that battle? PoRich & Diaz vs The Saurus & illmaculate.
If you could go back and do it again, what would you do differently in the PoRich/Diaz battle? The shove clearly hurt, but i feel like you and iLLmac were off that night as well. I honestly wouldnt do too many things differently. Maybe prep for an extra day. But I dont feel like they beat us regardless.

Do you get the prizes immediately? Also let's say you live in Baltimore and get a dinette set, how the hell do you get the dinette set from Los Angeles to Baltimore? I have not received any of the prizes as of yet. The show and their sponsors now have up to 90 days after the show airs to deliver the prizes to me. I should have put this in the original text, but I won a truck, a designer outfit, 4 digital cameras, a collapsable cooler, and 2 trips. According to the show's Production Assistant, they will have a California dealership contact me for the address where I want the truck shipped. All the other stuff will be mailed to my doorstep. The trips...I'm still a little uncertain about that. They said they have a travel agent that will book everything for me, but the thing is all travel is from LA and I live just south of Baltimore, MD.
I live just south of Baltimore, MD. Come on Columbia! Columbia is nice and I used to hang there, but no. I believe the locals call my area 'The Dena'
That's lame you can't fly out of Baltimore. Yeah...I thought the same thing, but since the price of the airfare is the full Y fare, I might be able to "engineer" some changes.
I always figured you have to pay for airfare to LA, if I'm wrong you need to update us! To be on the show itself, you incur all expenses. For any trips won from the show, that is the general idea. You pay for your way to LA and they take care of the rest.
Bro. I live in the dena. I went to Chesapeake. represent! Sweet!
THE DENA? harbour liquors on ft smallwood road. ever heard of it? Sure have. Right up the road from me.
Grew up in the Baltimore area for 18 years and have lived in Maryland for the last 8. TIL Pasadena is called "The Dena". You can even get one of those cool oval stickers for your car that says: DENA.
Ah sweet! I was just looking at houses in Pasadena! I like the area. It's a perfect mix of "I like to act like I have money" and redneck. :)
Hello fellow Pasadena redditor! Hello!!!
Holy fucking shit. I live in Pasadena. Small world eh?
to us non-locals, we affectionately know it as the "Dirty Dena!" Used to hang at The Sandbar or whatever it was called that month. Is that aka AL Gators, aka Daytonas, aka CVS??
Can you write-off those expenses against your winnings? Way to go, hon! Sadly, no. If I were a "professional game show contestant" I could deduct the cost of transportation, lodging, meals, etc.
Nice. i work their and my dad owns it. crazy that a price is right winner is in the area. congrats. Nice!!! I'm not much of a drinker, but I'll swing by sometime for a high five. :)
Dude, dena native here. Represent. Now that you're all famous I'll keep an eye out for ya at the Brass Rail and buy you a beer if I see ya. Grats on the win by the way and GO RAVENS! I appreciate that very much and might take you up on that offer. The real funny thing is that Drew never even asked me where I was from. I was prepared to give the shout out to The Dena, but never got the chance. By the time I got to the wheel, it completely slipped my mind.
My grandma lives in Pasadena lol, i lived in Fulton (close to columbia) and really miss the area. i moved to Texas bout 5 years ago, and i think i am the only ravens fan in my city! Well anyway congrats on the winnings man. Thank you very much. It's tough to be the only fan in an area. I used to work in the DC area and was surrounded by Redskin and Dallas fans. I still have yet to figure out how DC residents become Dallas fans, but I got it from both sides of church, if you will. :) Keep bleeding purple and black!!!
That's it! Man I forgot about Daytonas...so many names. What's it called now? Haven't been down that way for a while. It's a CVS...you can now buy remedies in the same location for all the crap you could contract at that place.
Trust me. All us Redskins fans are baffled too. I wonder if there's a bunch of Redskins fans in Dallas... probably not. Baffled. For what it's worth, I think RGIII will get a ring before Romo wil. He looks real good and I hope to see a Beltway Super Bowl sometime soon.
Mad respect from columbia! Reppin for md :p Thanks!! I have to get back to Columbia sometime soon. It is home to a little gem called Copeland's.
Holy shit I didn't know that! Aw, that's kinda sad. Even worse that it's such a corporate store, couldn't be like a cool coffee shop or farmer's market or something. Nope. Even if you said it by mistake, they will edit it out. They even tell you that they will edit it out if it's "questionable". So its best to play by their rules.
How long will it take Voyager to reach the nearest galaxy? Is this where I'm supposed to talk about Rampart and avoid any intimate questions about robbing a girl of her virginity after their prom?
You're gonna go far, kid. Thanks. I think this should be a mandatory comment for all AMA's and striving for Lillard-esque greatness should be your goal.
Was there a catch? Nope. I had to pay state taxes up front and will eventually pay federal tax on all the prizes because Big Daddy Sam considers prizes income.
Do a google search for "sweepstakes taxes" and you should be able to find more information. Cheers!!
Shitty deal. In Canada, all prizes are tax free. That is pretty cool, but I can barely hack the winters in Maryland...I don't think I'm cut out for Canada.
Is it inappropriate to ask what the state tax was on $41K+ worth of prizes? Not at all. I have to pay California state tax, which is 7% or $2881 if you don't want to do the math. In order to divert that money to Maryland, I will have to file and out of state resident tax return next year in which California cuts me a check and I get to turn that over to the State of Maryland without the complimentary tube of KY.
This part is sad to me. I see all these lower class people go insane over winning things not realizing they won't go home with a lot of it. Especially if you're paying taxes on the sticker price and not actual haggled price of a car or camper. This is where it is important to have an accountant. Granted you have to pay for their services, but they can reduce your tax bill a handsome sum by getting actual retail prices in your local market vs. the suggested retail price that the show hits you with on your 1099.
Ah well.. I guess free prizes that are taxed are better than no free prizes?! But that still is a bummer. Believe me...it doesn't suck. :) I was the only person that won their game on show along with the final showcase. I feel much better about the tax bill than having to watch me bomb on national TV.
Come to Australia, prizes are tax free here too. I was kinda hoping to win a trip to Australia on the show. Looks like Hong Kong is as close as I'm going to get. :)
I first read that as Kentucky Kentucky in a tube, brought to you by OMNI Consumer Products.
They're not taxing you 8.75%? Or was it 7.75% as of last year? Or is it a completely different tax? Meh. Here is a pic of the tax liability form. They only charged me a 7% estimated tax.
What does that final wheel feel like? That wheel is pretty heavy...but it was a big ass checkmark on the bucket list.
was it a big ass-checkmark? It is amazing how a hyphen can totally change the context of a couple of words.
Did Drew give you any trouble for being a Ravens fan? I hope as a Clevelander he gave you some grief. Go Browns! After I won my trip to Hong Kong, during the break, he didn't fail to take a jab at Ray Lewis. His words were, "Ray Lewis, huh? If you ever want to get away with murder..." That is what prompted my $23,052 bid at the end.
I thought I also just heard him say: "Give it a big Ray Lewis spin" when you were spinning the wheel trying to beat out that other dude. Drew did say that. When I spun the tie, I genuinely felt bad for that kid. I was the only person to win their prize and I knocked him out of contention for the showcase. I'm not going to lie, the remorse faded rather quickly, but I did have a moment.
Is it sad that I'm watching that episode now just because you're from B-more? And no...not sad at all. I would do the same thing. I find myself rooting for hometown contestants on just about all shows I happen to see.
Enjoy Hong Kong, unfortunately the 15 hour flight from Cali, if with United, won't have any personal in-flight entertainment so bring your own!! Thanks!! We are planning on hitting Disney while we are there. We have a fair amount of electronic devices to keep us entertained while in flight. I'm probably going to bring a copy of my appearance on the show to remind me of how I got there. :)
That's awesome, congrats again man! Thanks!! It has been a very interesting last couple of days.
I lived in HK for 3 years, I'm now in Singapore. I miss HK greatly, it will blow your mind. Make sure you go up Victoria Peak to get the best view of a city in the world! message me if you need any more assistance in HK! I believe that we get a tour that includes a stop at Victoria Peak. I'll definitely PM you when we're going to take the trip. Thanks!!!
Is it first class or coach? Coach. We will most likely upgrade the flight to Hong Kong. 15 hours in coach makes for a grumpy ravensnest92.
I've always wondered, when you win the big showcase or even the smaller prizes, do they give you an option of not taking the prizes and taking the cash value instead? And what if you don't want the prizes because they're something you're not into like a new bedroom set or a steam shower you can't put anywhere and you don't want to pay the taxes? Great questions. According to The Price is Right, I don't know about other shows, but you don't have a cash option. The only time you receive cash is if you win cash or you win an item in which they have experienced a high volume of theft. The woman that I played against in the final showcase won a computer. Because the box is labeled with Dell, Gateway, HP, etc. it is prone to be stolen, so the show cuts you a check instead of shipping you the prize. You have the option to 'forfeit' any prize that you do not want. The best example is a college student wins a baby grand piano. What in the world are they going to do with that and where are they going to put it. So they have a form that you fill out and declare that you are forfeiting said prize and you are no longer liable for the taxes.
because the box is labeled with Dell, Gateway, HP, etc. Why not just put it into a bigger cardboard box that is unmarked? Not a bad idea. Perhaps you can fire that suggestion to the folks at CBS.
If he could line up a buyer for that, could he have gave them the address of the buyer and have it delivered straight there? I'm going to have to say no to that...mainly because they deliver all prizes to the same address and they may not all arrive on the same day. In the case of the example I gave, a smart move would be to use your parents address and line up a buyer shortly after the prize has been delivered.
If they are cutting you a check for it, i would imagine you arent restricted to buying that exact computer, right? For example, you win a brand new Dell laptop, but they cut you a check and you decide to go with an HP. Once you get the check in your hands, it is yours to do with as you wish.
Are you going to keep everything, or sell some of it? Also, Baltimore representing :) I am undecided as of yet. My wife and I are definitely taking the trips, mostly because we can't sell them, but they also look very interesting.
Did you consider refusing any of the prizes to avoid being taxed on them if you didn't want/couldn't use/resell them? We thought about it and the show gives you time to wrap your head around everything to make a sound decision. In the end, we really wanted to take advantage of the whole thing. Even if it meant getting the full brunt of the taxes.
I'm not sure how it works, but how did you get tickets to the show? What made you want to fly all the way to the west coast on a "chance" of being on the show? Did you have a backup/vacation plan if you weren't picked? There are two ways you can get into the audience to 'Come on Down'. You can get tickets through the CBS.com website or you can get in line and wait. If there are enough ticket holders to fill the audience, the people in line don't get in. According to the CBS Pages, they usually have a mix of 80% people waiting to get in and 20% ticket holders. We had tickets for that specific date/time and were guaranteed admittance.
Also, congrats!!! We actually drove. A trip that we want to do again someday. Our country is an awesome site to see. I was representing my poker club in the main event at the WSOP in Vegas and we figured that we would make it a true cross country trip by going to LA. The poker thing didn't work out too well. I made it to day three before my AK got out flopped by A8.
Hey, Day 3 at the WSOP is nothing to scoff at. Good run! That's what all my buddies told me when it happened, but for 2 weeks I felt like I let everyone down. I've come to grips with it now, but it would have been so cool to have come home with a check from them.
Tough luck on the WSOP. But hey, you got to go on national TV and represent Baltimore!! Meh....I made it further than 5,000 other people did and you are absolutely right...I was more than happy to represent B-More and Ravens Nation!
How did you and your poker club come up with the 10k for the ME? Also, did you cash? 20 of us got together and each put in $60 a night for 10 months. We came up with a point structure for placing 1st, 2nd, 3rd, etc. Whomever had the most points at the end of the 10 months goes to the WSOP and they get an additional $2000 for travel expenses. I happened to win the first year and we expanded the following year and now have 2 guys going to the main event this year.
I did not cash. I was 12 hours shy of the money being knocked out on day 3. My AK got outflopped by A8.
$60 a night (as in every night?) for 10 months or $60 a night (every poker night)? Oh wow...I must have been really tired when I wrote that. It was total of 10 tourny's, once per month for 10 months. Sorry about that. So $60 every poker night.
AK is probably my least favorite hand, I think I've lost ten times more with it than I won. Must have been a thrill to play in the ME. The ME was the single most thrilling event I have ever participated in until I got to Come On Down. Our first child is due in January and I"m pretty sure that will crush anything outside of the miracle of my own birth.
Congrats on the kid! Now if you get to go to the ME again and happen to win it..that just may top off the birth of your first child..just sayin' Not too sure about that. It will definitely rank a close 2nd. :)
How long is the show? And i don't mean the 1 hour airing...does the whole process of the show run longer? Between games is there a lot of setup/take down that goes on in between and if so, what does the audience do besides sit on their crossed fingers waiting to be called? The whole process is very close to an hour long. They had to do a couple of takes at the end to get any footage they may have missed. Case in point, they had no idea that I was married when they showed me the trip to Hong Kong on the big screen at the back of the studio. At the end of the show, when I had already won, they brought out a model to stand on the logo and George Gray re-did the announcement for the trip saying that I could take my wife on the trip to Hong Kong.
During commercial breaks Drew will dance, tell jokes, and interact with the audience. As the producers like to say, they have been doing this for 40 years, they have everything down to a science. Once they are done filming, they ask the audience to exit, the contestants sign all the obligatory paperwork, and you are ushered out.
The longest part of the process is the wait to get into the studio. We were allowed onto the CBS lot at noon and we didn't get into the studio until 4:00pm.
That's pretty cool that the show is near a one and done; i wonder how the show was like with Bobby. Near the end of his tenure, they prolly had to wheel out the oxygen and wheelchair for him. Congrats on the win sir!Enjoy your trips! Thanks!! I always wanted to get on the show with Bob, but I did meet a guy about 4 years ago that was on the show with Bob Barker and he actually got to play Plinko. He said Bob was the Frank Sinatra of game show hosts. I think that's probably the highest compliment that a person could give another.
...they have everything down to a science. You start off by lining up in two lines outside the studio lot. Those with tickets and those without. Ticket holders get in first and then they bring in the stand by folks. They bring you in groups of 20 - 25 people at a time to a staging area with long benches where you can purchase stuff from the official Price is Right store. While they are bringing in the other audience members/potential contestants, the CBS Pages gives you a pink card with a number and a tear off section for your personal information. Another Page will come along and ask for your photo ID for your name tag. They are required to put your full first name on the tag, it took the Page 3 tries to get my name to fit on the tag. Once you have your tag, you tear off your info, give it to the Page, and you are instructed to affix the number under your name tag. When they have 350 or so people in the first staging area, they take you in groups of 50 to have your picture taken in front of a green screen for novelty photos that are available for purchase. After your picture, you get to another section of benches where another Page will take your head shot with a digital camera. Once everyone is brought over to this second staging area, you will be grouped into sections of 10 - 15 people. This is where the producer will interview every single person that is willing and eligible to be on the show. At the close of your group interview, you are taken through a metal detector where you must surrender all electronic devices(they return them after the show) and you are corralled into another staging area with TV's that hang from the ceiling. They play episodes of The Price is Right and the Pages give you the dos and donts of the show. Once everyone has been brought through security, you are marched into the studio and they seat you according to how many people are in your group. Larger groups generally get center studio consideration.
Elaborate. On a scale of gas station to Disneyland, how buttoned down is the procedure? Disneyland.
he got to play PLINKO!?!?! I know...right!!!! Lucky bastard!
That or johnny carson of game shows. You got the idea.
Ah this is my dream. I love the price is right. Just wondering, how much of your winning can be accredited to skill? Were you just taking random guessed at prices? I know that after watching enough, certain products show up fairly regularly, did you ever know for sure a price? Watching the show regularly does help out a lot. I've seen them recycle prizes at least half a dozen times. For example...they had an iPad 2 with Italian leather case. It was $698 and stayed at that price for 3 months. The iPad 3 came out and the price dropped on the show to $658. It has hovered around that price for a while now. I had not seen any of the prizes I bid on prior to my appearance.
The price guessing thing...this is where it gets a little embarrassing. I am an IT manager and the first prize up for bids was a desktop computer with printer, which I overbid by $400. You'd think that I would have had a leg up on that one, but I intentionally bid more because I was taking "California prices" into consideration. I overbid the next two items, unintentionally, I sincerely thought those were the prices. When we got to the item I won, it was just a matter of position. I was last to bid, the first person bid $5000, 2nd bid was $875, and the person to my right bid $1....it was my duty as a contestant and to the memory of Bob Barker to bid $876 and take it down. :)
Ah I always scream at the people who bid $1 more! And then I think to myself, if it were me... I'd do the exact same thing. Kudos! It was just the right thing to do. Before they brought the prize out I was thinking, "Oh man...am I going to be that guy that gets to contestants row and never makes up on stage?? I don't want to be that guy." I really wanted to bid $1000, but my brain was like..."What if it's $999??? Then you'd feel really stupid, wouldn't you??" That's when the $876 bid came out.
What's your favorite season of The Wire? And why? I would say season 2 since a high school friend of mine had a few appearances on the show, but he wasn't credited until season 5. So I will have to go with 5. It made my friend Lee E. Cox legit.
Huge upvote for you, season 2 does not get enough respect. Signed, A Steelers Fan. You, sir, are the reason why I love reddit. I find that most Steeler fans I encounter are less than savory characters, but reddit has proven to be the exception to that rule. The trash talk is witty and there is a mutual respect for the teams we both love to hate.
As a Steelers fan, I'm bound by contract to hate you. As a redditor, gratz on the prizes and weight loss man, that's awesome! I've both upvoted, and downvoted accordingly. I expect nothing less from every Steelers fan and would do the exact same.
Can I borrow some money? I was going to ask you the same thing. You know...for taxes and stuff.
I've heard the price is right staff interviews everyone (willing to be a contestant) before the show, Is this true? If true what did they ask you? also congrats saw you win that day. Thanks!! They do interview everyone that is willing and eligible to be a contestant. They group you into segments of 10 - 15 people and a very nice person by the name of Stan conducted each interview. He started off by asking me what I did for a living. I told him that I am(was) an IT Manager for the State of Maryland(thankfully I am no longer one of O'Malley's subjects). He then started the banter with..."Oh really?!?! The whole state of Maryland?!?!" We spoke for about 5 - 6 minutes, which was 4 - 5 minutes longer than he spent on anyone else. It really is all about personality and good energy level. They want to put someone on the show that people will root for. Don't be over-enthusiatic and don't give them a sob story. They want to see the real person that is going to get excited and show real emotion.
Also if you go in a big group of people that all wear the same type of shirt, generally one person out of that group will get picked.
I went with the Air Force, it was fun. One of the MSgts. won a car. I love it when members of the military get up on stage. I grew up as an Army brat and have a huge appreciation for our armed services.
BTW - Thank you very much for your service.
Good info! I sorta figured they picked likable people for the show. I was hoping you'd win, even with you being a Ravens fan. On another note, GO BEARS! My best friend is a Bears fan and the company I work for is based out of Skokie, IL. So I'm kinda in the loop....also Giordano's has the best deep dish pizza I have ever had in my life.
Thank you for your support oh and congrats on the win and the baby on the way! Thank you very much. We have been trying for about 5 years and we feel like we have hit the lottery. All the attention and prizes from the show are great and all, but we are far more excited about the baby.
Sir, there is officially nothing I can dislike about you from seeing you on TV. If we ever cross paths I will insist on a getting a slice of pizza with you, Giordano's deep dish of course . Outstanding!!! I am supposed to head out to Skokie sometime next month. I might have to hold you to that. :)
You, my good friend, need to try Lou Malnati's deep dish pizza. But I will grant you that Giordano's deep dish is tasty. and BEAR DOWN! :) I am supposed to be in the Chicago area next month. I'll give it a try.
So they'll deliver the car to your house? Do you get to choose the color? Additional options? Yes they will. Sadly, you don't get any choices. They send a vehicle that they have in stock which matches the specs that they announced on the show. Since it will be a dealer in California, I'm hoping that I can convince them that it would be cheaper to insert a check with my name one it into a 5 cent envelope, affix a 44 cent stamp to that envelope, put my address on it, and send it.
What made you decide to get tickets? have you been on any other game shows? I got the tickets as a surprise for my wife. Her birthday is July 9 and the show was taped on July 18th. I was really hoping that she would have made it up there to play, but technically I can say she did get up on stage at the end.
I have been on one other game show. I made it onto Who Wants to Be a Millionaire with Meredith Viera. I'm not too proud of that performance. They threw a curveball question at me that knocked me out of contention at the $8,000 level. I got a check for $1,000 about a month after the show aired. I was ridiculously close to being on Deal or No Deal, but for some reason I never got the call to come out to LA.
Is it this easy to get on game shows??? wtf have I been doing all these years? I wouldn't say it's easy, but all I had to do was be myself. So in that regard, it was that easy.
How did you get picked? is there anything we dont see about picking contestants on air? I heard once they try to single out people that are unique or really energetic while they are waiting to get in, you feel like thats true? It's mostly about personality. The show is looking for people that the viewers will get excited about and will root for them. They want you to have big energy, but not over the top. I can tell you from personal experience that the show will plant people that work with the show in the crowd to start evaluating people. It's a great tactic because you are going to act the most natural when you believe that you are not being watched or judged. Not to sound all creepy and Big Brother-ish, but they are watching you and judging you at ALL TIMES, so treat everyone like they are your best friend, give lots of high fives, don't give the CBS Pages a hard time, and just have fun. Also, there is a lot of waiting before you get into the studio and complaining about the wait will pretty much keep you in your seat in the studio.
Last, there is an interview with the producer of the show and his name is Stan. Stan is awesome. He will ask you a question, much like lobbing a tennis ball at you. Your job is to answer it briefly and "lob" it back to him. They need to know that you won't take up too much time when talking. I made the mistake of thanking him and calling him Stu. I'm not sure if that helped my cause or not, but it did make me memorable.
Thats awesome, im sorry i hadn't fond your other post about this before i asked, i didn't ctrl +f it like i shoulda. thanks for the info, its one of my biggest dreams to go out there and be on the show someday. and i assume the mistake was Stu, not in thanking him lol. It's cool and yes....calling him Stu may have been what put me over the top.
Would you rather have sex with anybody you want, whenever you want, or have the Ravens win back to back superbowls? You know...this will probably get downvoted to hell, but sex is great and all, but it is a temporary event. Championships last forever and can never be taken away. I'd take the repeat Super Bowls.
As a Ravens fan do you harbor any specific hatred for any of the other teams in the AFC North? Because as a Cleveland fan my observation is that all other AFC North fans are united in their hatred of Baltimore. How does that make you feel? Also, what is Drew Carey like? Drew is a class act and a true gentleman. He took a jab at my Ray Lewis jersey during commercial break and took my jab back at him during the final showcase. He was easy to talk with and just looked like he genuinely enjoyed his job.
