Internet-connected technology, also known as the Internet of Things (IoT), is now part of daily life, with smart assistants like Siri and Alexa to cars, watches, toasters, fridges, thermostats, lights, and the list goes on and on. Hackers used a smart thermometer in a casino's lobby aquarium to steal information from the casino's database. An unnamed casino was hacked when someone accessed its systems through a network-connected thermometer in a fish tank, according to cyber-security firm Darktrace. This is one helluva high-tech casino heist. Genius Hackers Used a Vegas Casino's Fish Tank Thermometer to Steal High Rollers' Personal Information Crafty hackers were able to hack a Las Vegas casino's network via their IoT thermometer. The cyber criminals identified this small chink in the casino's infrastructure and exploited it to pilfer 10 gigabites of data containing information on their high-roller customers, which they fed back to device in Finalnd. The purpose of the thermometer was to track the water temperature of an aquarium that was installed in the lobby. Hackers somehow managed to identify and obtain information from the high-roller database list of the casino simply by compromising the thermometer.
