ELI5:How to interpret hazard ratio vs. odds ratio?

Hi Reddit, I'm a student working in a research department studying diabetes at my school. I've run statistical analyses on a large patient cohort, including Hazard Ratio and Odds Ratio. I get the Odds Ratio well enough, but I'm confused over how to interpret Hazard Ratio.
Suppose that we're looking at 5-year mortality and chronic kidney disease among patients with diabetic foot syndrome. The HR for CKD is 1.2, and its OR is 2.4 (rounding a bit). What does the HR tell us that OR does not? Is a difference between HR and OR of that magnitude significant?
Edit: The difference between the ratios was because of data entry errors. Mystery solved.

Risk ratios, odds ratios, and hazard ratios are three common, but often misused, statistical measures in clinical research. In this paper, the authors dissect what each of these terms define, and provide examples from the medical literature to illustrate each of these statistical measures. Finally, the correct and incorrect methods to use these measures are summarized. Free thyroxine levels were positively associated with high coronary artery calcification score (odds ratio, 2.28; 95% confidence interval, 1.30-4.02) and incident ASCV events (hazard ratio, 1.87 ... The hazard ratio is derived from calculating the rate (number of events/time) in the intervention and the control arms expressed as a ratio. So there are some additional statistical considerations, but that would perhaps be more detail than is needed for basic interpretation. Kind regards. Hazard ratio deals with a two part ( level ) explanatory variable and is an instantaneous risk over the course of the study . In a study on men given a new stati... Odds Ratio, Hazard Ratio and Relative Risk Janez Stare1 Delphine Maucort-Boulch2 Abstract Odds ratio (OR) is a statistic commonly encountered in professional or scientific medical literature. Most readers perceive it as relative risk (RR), although most of them do not know why that would be true. But since such perception is mostly correct, there is nothing (or almost nothing) wrong with that ... Let’s say that in your experiment the calculated Hazard Ratio is equal to 0.65. This is how you can interpret and report it. The mortality rate in a group of smokers drops by 35% compared to the group of high-calorie diet. The mortality rate among smokers is 0.65 times of that among patients with a high-calorie diet. mortality rate of smokers is 65% of that of gluttons. At each time point of ... an odds ratio of 2 means that the event is 2 time more probable given a one-unit increase in the predictor. It means the odds would double, which is not the same as the probability doubling. In Cox regression, a hazard ratio of 2 means the event will occur twice as often at each time point given a one-unit increase in the predictor. Odds Ratio Vs Relative Risk .
